With a mission to produce science that enhances society, create clear career pathways for Mason students, and enhance economic development in the region and the nation, COS undertakes pioneering research endeavors that offer insight and solutions to the complex issues that challenge today's world.Responsibilities:The Research Manager will provide technical and logistical support to one of the scientific laboratories that performs scientific research in the field of virology. The incumbent will provide hands on support for ongoing research projects including experimental design and execution, and training of personnel. The incumbent will work closely with the laboratory lead investigator to ensure timely progression of research activities and compliance with University and federal regulatory requirements.Additional duties include, but are not limited to:Cell culture and related activities;Virus culture and related activities;Research activities around proteomic analyses including western blots, immunoprecipitations, Microscopy, mass spectrometry, ELISA;Research activities around transcriptomic analyses including medium throughput gene expression arrays;Operate in biosafety level 2 and biosafety level 3 environments;Training of personnel;Development and maintenance of standard operating procedures/protocols; andEnsure compliance with all regulatory and safety requirements established by the University.Required Qualifications:Completion of a Bachelors degree;Excellent interpersonal communications and problem-solving skills;Experience working with undergraduate and graduate students in higher education;Highly developed organizational skills;Ability to operate independently and as a team player;Maturity and a strong passion to help others;Ability to multitask;Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds;Excellent verbal and writing skills; andStrong analytical thinking skills.Preferred Qualifications:Completion of a Masters degree in biology, biochemistry, molecular biology, or appropriate level of work experience;Knowledge of multi-omic (proteomic and/or transcriptomic) processes;Experience in cloning;Experience in assay design and development; andExperience in composition of manuscripts and grant proposals.
