Alternative Access Specialist:The George Mason University, University Libraries, invites qualified candidates for an Alternative Access Specialist. George Mason University has a strong institutional commitment to the achievement of excellence and diversity among its faculty and staff, and strongly encourages candidates to apply who will enrich Mason's academic and culturally inclusive environment.About the Position:As a member of the Resource Licensing & Delivery department, the Alternative Access Specialist is responsible for connecting Mason faculty and students to research and information needed to support teaching, learning, and research in the current and emerging scholarly communications landscape. The incumbent utilizes expert searching skills to locate Open Access and pay provider options, as well as resource sharing partners, to deliver needed research sources to Mason users as quickly and cost-effectively as possible. This position enables the Libraries to implement a new model for providing access to critical and necessary resources at a lower cost while supporting the University's mission. This position also supports all resource sharing activities of the Interlibrary Loan (ILL) Office, as needed, to enable the unit's continuity of operations.Required Qualifications:Strong customer service skills;Bachelor's degree or significant equivalent library experience;Experience providing ILL or resource sharing services;Demonstrated knowledge of and experience with current library systems (such as OCLC WorldShare ILL, ILLiad, Alma) and research resources (such as EBSCO, JSTOR, ProQuest);Effective interpersonal and communication skills (written and oral) for providing customer service in a diverse, academic environment;Aptitude for accurate and detail-oriented work;Ability to work both independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced, service-oriented environment; andPhysical ability to bend and reach overhead, to grasp and move library materials, to move and unpack packages and bins (up to 40 pounds), and to push loaded book trucks.Preferred Qualifications:Experience using library resources to conduct advanced academic research;Academic library experience (2-3 years);Experience scanning documents for interlibrary loan, using Bookeye scanner and BSCAN-ILL software; andDemonstrated knowledge of the principles of copyright and fair use as they relate to interlibrary loan and document delivery.
