AARP Services, Inc., founded in 1999, is a wholly-owned taxable subsidiary of AARP. AARP Services manages the provider relationships for and performs quality control oversight of the wide range of products and services that carry the AARP name and are made available by independent providers as benefits to AARP's millions of members. The provider offers currently span health products, financial products, travel and leisure products, and life event services. Specific products include Medicare supplemental insurance; credit cards, auto and home, mobile home and motorcycle insurance, life insurance and annuities; member discounts on rental cars, cruises, vacation packages and lodging; special offers on technology and gifts; pharmacy services and legal services. AARP Services also engages in new product development activities for AARP and provides certain consulting services to outside companies.

The Director, Data Science directs the development of scalable algorithms and methods to provide real-time recommendations. Builds data pipelines and oversees the implementation of algorithms for classification and regression, such as decision trees/random forests, logistic regression, linear regression, etc. Provides business processes, system support, and data quality governance for master data through data coordination and integration to ensure efficient processes and consistent data flows to business and stakeholders. Collaborates with senior management to translate and integrate complex data into strategic plans to ensure continued successful growth and profitability.

The Director, Data Science also champions data science innovations, leads the development of customized analytical solutions and data products to drive effective marketing towards AARP members to engage with commercial benefits, as well as communicates efficiently with AARP/ASI matrixed teams and AARP benefit providers to scale up data science adoption.


  • Provides hands-on leadership to the data sciences and statistical team and related vendors.
  • Utilizes expertise for analytic deliverables in support of the organizational mission. Deliverables include multi-channel marketing files, analytic reports, insights, and interpretation.
  • Interprets a wide and varied set of data and analytic outputs to derive actionable insights and prescriptive recommendations.
  • Expands upon data partner ecosystem and drives development of new models and segmentations.
  • Oversees and direct various analytic activities including the ability to create blended online & offline insights using a diverse set of platforms and tools.
  • Develops strategy for new data science initiatives and supported innovative process improvements.
  • Provides thought leadership in how analytics can support the organization.


  • Master's degree in quantitative discipline e.g. statistics, Economics, Computer Science, engineering; PhD degree preferred
  • 8+ years of experience in data science role with strong marketing/advertising, consulting, modeling or business intelligence background

Technical Skills:
  • Proficiency in open source programming (e.g. python & pyspark, scala, R), cloud environment (e.g. AWS, databricks), SAS, SQL and Excel (including VBA).
  • Experience with consumer, digital marketing/advertising data and technology providers (e.g. Google, LiveRamp, TradeDesks etc.).
  • Experience working with databases and manipulating, navigating and harvesting large datasets.
  • Expert level knowledge in predictive modeling and machine learning solutions (e.g. logistic regression, linear regression, decision tree-based ensemble machine learning algorithm, time-series model, media mix and attribution modeling, streaming etc.).
  • Experience in multi-channel marketing campaigns, measurement, reporting, test design and analyses.
  • Experience in applying data science and analytics to solve real-world business problems.
  • Be able to present sophisticated data science methods and results to business audiences.

  • Ability to develop project plans, and manage strategic projects across internal teams and clients; motivate people to action.
  • Demonstrated ability to drive cross-functional teams to meet business objectives and influence co-workers and external stakeholders, fostering strong working relationships.
  • Ability to build trust and achieve results through others in a matrix environment.

Flexible Work Arrangement (FWA)

AARP observes Mondays and Fridays as telecommuting workdays, except for essential functions. Remote work and telecommuting can only be done within the United States and its territories.
