Department of Computer ScienceGraduate Program SpecialistThe George Mason University Department of Computer Science, within the College of Engineering and Computing (CEC), seeks a proactive, organized, and self-reliant Graduate Program Specialist. Please note that the incumbent will occasionally need to work evening and weekend hours for orientation and admissions events.Provide advising assistance to current students on course selection, prerequisites, transfer credits, graduation and general University information, through events for current students and appointments with individual students;Provide advising assistance to prospective students through outreach events and correspondence with applicants;Provide data and statistical reporting on admissions processes;Process new student paperwork;Coordinate test-out exams for introductory courses;Support graduation processes for MS programs;Serve as backup contact for CS PhD program; andAssist with reservations for proctoring and for CS conference rooms.Required Qualifications:Bachelor's degree in related field; or equivalent combination of related education and experience;Ability to establish and maintain an effective rapport and working relationship with individuals from diverse social and ethnic backgrounds;Demonstrated communication and organizational skills;Knowledge of basic word processing;Demonstrated skill in spreadsheet and data entry applications;Demonstrated interpersonal skills and professionalism in communication; andAbility to work evening and weekend hours for occasional orientation and admissions events.Preferred Qualifications:Experience with Microsoft Office suite including Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel;Prior experience in the usage of the multi-line telephone, copier and fax machines; andPrior experience in higher education or other academic advising.Mason Computing: The Future of Computing is HereThe College of Engineering and Computing at George Mason University is comprised of the Volgenau School of Engineering and the School of Computing.
