AARP's Integrated Communications and Marketing (ICM) Group includes Membership, Content and Editorial, Customer Experience, External Relations, Brand Strategy and Strategic Communications. Across paid, earned, shared and owned channels, ICM manages AARP's reputation, drives engagement and member growth, and showcases AARP's mission and value through one, integrated voice.

Reporting to the SVP & Editorial Director, the VP & Editor-in-Chief (EIC)- AARP.org leads the development of content for digital in the areas of news, features and all AARP-related content. This includes the news-based articles and features and the daily news feed for AARP.org and the AARP Now app as well as content based on AARP business units and core content on the website that informs the 50plus demographic.

Responsibilities

  • In charge of all editorial content on website and oversees director of news, director of features, director of AARP core content, director of state pages as well as oversees the Hispanic website team. EIC also has as direct reports managing editor of the site, department head for research and copyediting. Overall is responsible for developing creative, newsworthy, authoritative, and appealing digital content
  • Works collaboratively and helps develop overall content strategy and fulfilling of content needs with Editor-in-Chief, AARP Publications, AARP Creative Director, head of AARP Studios, and head of Virtual Community Center. Also works collaboratively with social media team
  • Works closely with the Community, State, and National Affairs (CSN) business unit on campaigns, lobbying efforts, content needs related to states. Also works as well with VP Content Strategy and Communications and the team of Content Strategy Directors who coordinate cross platform efforts. Works collaboratively with business units to create appealing and effective content
  • Works closely and collaboratively with marketing team to provide content helpful in increasing registrations on the site and membership and membership renewals. Works with advertising team to increase advertising revenue

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in journalism, English, communications or related discipline. Master's degree preferred.
  • 15+ years magazine, newspaper and digital experience including 10+ years of media management experience.
  • Excellent news judgment.
  • Excellent knowledge of AARP and issues of greatest important to organization and its membership.
  • In-office/open office environment with the ability to work effectively surrounded by moderate noise.

Flexible Work Arrangement (FWA)

AARP observes Mondays and Fridays as telecommuting workdays, except for essential functions. Remote work and telecommuting can only be done within the United States and its territories.
