Are you a design student with solid Adobe Creative Suite skills who is creative, organized, results-driven, and passionate about storytelling? The AARP Publications Design team is looking for you! Our team directs the design for AARP The Magazine (the largest circulated magazine in the world), the AARP Bulletin, and five digital newsletters (The Girlfriend, Sisters, The Arrow, The Ethel, and the AARP Veteran's Report). We also provide creative support for promotional collateral, social media graphics, and special projects (print and digital). Responsibilities

The Publications Design Intern will assist our busy department with a variety of tasks including, but not limited to:
  • Help to develop print and digital layouts for AARP The Magazine and the AARP Bulletin
  • Assist with creating visuals or assign illustrations across all platforms
  • Attach text to CPS (AARP's Content Publishing System) layouts
  • Create and collect social media assets
  • Enter artist contracts into our database
  • Upload imagery to the digital asset management system

Qualifications

  • Must be enrolled in a degree program at an accredited college/university, be a rising undergraduate junior or senior, or a graduate student, and remain academically enrolled throughout the internship
  • In-depth knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite programs-especially InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator-is required; knowing After Effects is a plus
  • Familiarity with CPS/Censhare is a plus but not required (we will train)
  • Knowledge of multiple social media platforms is a plus
  • Must be a self-starter, able to multitask and work within tight deadlines.
  • Must enjoy collaborating and working as part of a team
  • Must have excellent communication skills and be comfortable communicating with outside vendors (Illustrators, photographers, etc.)
  • The schedule is flexible; the Design team works remotely on Mondays and Fridays and in the office on Tuesdays and Wednesdays; Thursdays are often a telework day

Flexible Work Arrangement (FWA)

AARP observes Mondays and Fridays as telecommuting workdays, except for essential functions. Remote work and telecommuting can only be done within the United States and its territories.

Compensation and Benefits

The hourly range is $18 for undergraduates, $21 for graduate students, $28 for Ph.D. candidates. Internships are non-exempt positions and are not eligible for employee benefits.
