Academic AdvisorThe George Mason University Schar School of Policy and Government invites applications for the position of Academic Advisor. George Mason University has a strong institutional commitment to the achievement of excellence and diversity among its faculty and staff, and strongly encourages candidates to apply who will enrich Mason's academic and culturally inclusive environment.About the Position:The Academic Advisor provides undergraduate academic advising and supports student outreach and retention.Responsibilities:Provide academic advising and support services to Schar School BS and BA programs, to include pre-orientation advising;Counsel students in-person and virtually regarding degree progress, graduation requirements, and academic procedures;Educate students about university deadlines, policies, and procedures;Initiate outreach to students to guide their academic planning;Support students holistically through the proactive exploration of their academic interests and career goals;Participate in new student orientation advising sessions and programs;Monitor academic progress to identify students at-risk and develop action plans to support their continued enrollment; support students with academic progress challenges or special requests; andCollaborate with Schar Engagement team to advance retention goals through our Learning Communities and other co-curricular programming.Required Qualifications:Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of related education and experience; andExperience serving and supporting diverse student populations.Preferred Qualifications:Master's degree in Student Affairs, Higher Education, Counseling or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
