AARP's Integrated Communications and Marketing (ICM) Group includes Membership, Content and Editorial, Customer Experience, External Relations, Brand Strategy and Strategic Communications. The UI/UX Designer Lead implements UX solutions to meet business and marketing objectives. Manages the study and evaluation of the user experience and usability of the system (e.g., look, ease of use, utility, performance, etc.); translates user experience design requirements to technology teams. Collaborates with management to identify opportunities to create new, and update existing, user experiences that support the goals of the business unit/department.


  • Works in a matrixed team to produce product designs which meet organizational goals. Acts as a primary point-of-contact for user experience and product design, leveraging human-centered design processes, design thinking, user research, and best practices to shape product design to address challenges and capitalize on opportunities to scale and sustainably grow products.
  • Works with stakeholders to help develop articulate strategy, planning and execution of product design roadmaps. Develops and aligns engagement goals and tactics which emphasize measurable outcomes and actionable results, as well as create UX deliverables (e.g., user flows, wireframes, high-fidelity designs and prototypes), and support teams in executing the tactics, as appropriate.
  • Conducts user research via tests, surveys, user testing, analysis of analytics, and other methods to gather insights in user behavior. Uses insights to shape the design of products.
  • Assesses, optimizes, and recommends UX strategies and tactics for the organization's digital properties and channels. Provides UX guidance, technical expertise and leadership to product teams around how they deliver websites, apps and other digital experiences, in service of accomplishing their goals.
  • Works with appropriate teams to stay up to date on developments in user behavior to identify understand user experience issues. Works with team to propose and implement such solutions to address user and organizational needs.
  • Partners with key stakeholders across the organization to execute strategies and tactics to meet enterprise dashboard goals and perform the appropriate market and product research.
  • As needed, creates compelling presentations that communicate product design problems, solutions, and performance.


  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience and 5+ Years of experience in UX Design or closely related field.
  • Proven track record of designing compelling and easy to use responsive experiences.
  • Experience working in an Agile development environment.
  • Experience designing flows, wireframes, hi-fidelity mockups in Figma or similar software (we primarily use Figma) and experience designing for WCAG accessibility compliance.
  • Self-motivated with excellent presentation and written/oral communication skills, ability to present designs and design decision justifications to a variety of audiences, including other designers, developers, business stakeholders, able to work collaboratively.
  • Experience working with information architecture.
  • Experience using website analytics and data to uncover patterns and areas to focus on.
  • Ability to perform qualitative / quantitative user research to understand user needs and goals and uncover usability issues.

Flexible Work Arrangement (FWA)

AARP observes Mondays and Fridays as telecommuting workdays, except for essential functions. Remote work and telecommuting can only be done within the United States and its territories.
