Determined in investing capacity and resources toward well-being, balance, and sustainable structures to contribute to the experiences of employees and stakeholders.About the Position:Working together with the Associate Director, the NSFP professional staff, and a dynamic team of student leaders, this position will assist in implementing new student Orientation for over 13,000 new students and guests annually (summer and winter programming times). As an integral member of the NSFP team, the Assistant Director provides direction and support for a wide range of division initiatives and serves as an active ambassador for the George Mason community. As a professional staff member in NSFP, the Assistant Director will have exposure to relevant orientation responsibilities, such as communication, professional development, and collaborating with campus partners. It is important that the Assistant Director maintains active participation in key professional organizations relevant to the position.Responsibilities:Reporting to the Associate Director for Orientation, the Assistant Director facilitates the coordination, implementation and evaluation of the department's student leader experience including program implementation, stakeholder relations, student leader and intern development/supervision, and more.Orientation Responsibilities:Assist in the development of comprehensive orientation program;Assist in the coordination of student programs for orientation;Serve as departmental liaison for various key orientation stakeholders; andDevelop protocol and coordinate all overnight orientation housing accommodations for students in collaboration with Housing and Residence Life.Patriot Leader Experience Responsibilities:Develop, implement, and evaluate the Patriot Leader team recruitment, selection and training process;Train, supervise, and evaluate the Patriot Leader team, including the development and instruction of the training curriculum; andDevelop and execute the Student Leader Team competency assessment program.NSFP Responsibilities:Develop, train, recruit, supervise and evaluate the Student Coordinator team in collaboration with other Assistant Directors;Manage Student Leader Team budget in coordination with Director and Business Manager;Select, train, and co-supervise Orientation Interns during summer orientation;Supervise additional undergraduate and graduate staff at the discretion of the Director/Associate Director;Attend professional meetings and maintain active memberships in salient professional organizations; andServe on university committees and other tasks identified by Director/Associate Director.Required Qualifications:Demonstrated working knowledge of new student and family programs; student and family transitional issues; student leadership and training development; mentoring and advising of student leaders; and have experience designing, developing, and executing large-scale programming initiatives;Exceptional interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills;Must demonstrate experience designing and executing large-scale program assessment and be able to analyze data and create meaningful reports;Must have highly developed organizational management and problem-solving skills and must work accurately and efficiently in order to meet a multitude of deadlines and responsibilities;Ability to learn quickly in a fast-paced environment;Be able to manage conflicting and competing situations; andMust have a commitment to diversity and be comfortable working within diverse populations.Preferred Qualifications:Master's degree in higher education, student personnel, counseling or a related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience;Demonstrated professional experience in a higher education environment (typically obtained in 1+ year of full-time status); andExperience supervising undergraduate and graduate student staff.
