Job Description

The Washington Post is looking for an assistant systems editor to join our Newsroom Logistics team.



Newsroom Logistics supports Post journalists with equipment, security and technical issues. A typical workday for the person who fills this role may include setting up workstations and equipment for newly hired journalists, troubleshooting issues with laptops or mobile devices, or solving other urgent technology challenges for reporters and editors who are working on complex stories under strict deadlines. Occasionally, the assistant systems editor will also be tasked with training members of the newsroom on how to use devices or software.

We are looking for someone who has a high comfort level with technology, enjoys the challenge of troubleshooting problems, understands the needs of a 24/7 newsroom and can be calm under pressure.

Extensive experience in IT or tech support is a plus but is not strictly required. More important is a strong work ethic, keen attention to detail, the ability to learn quickly and an instinct toward curiosity and customer service.A working knowledge of mobile deviceand laptop technology (we support both Mac and Windows machines), as well as Microsoft Office software, Adobe products and Slack, is required.Experience with information security protocols and/or satellite phones is a big plus. This role also requires excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Candidates who are enthusiastic about the mission of journalism and have a baseline level of knowledge about the news-gathering process are particularly encouraged to apply.



This position is based in our Washington newsroom.Occasional eveningand weekendwork is expected.
