Job Description Position Summary : Responsible for handling all aspects of the general ledger, including daily operational transactions, journal entries, reconciliations of all balance sheet accounts, and month-end closing ensuring compliance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), AAMVA, IRS and other applicable regulatory policies and guidelines. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Process daily transactions in the general ledger Reconcile balance sheets accounts and resolve accounting discrepancies and/or irregularities in accordance with month-end closing schedule Prepare and provide necessary reporting for inclusion in monthly and quarterly financial packages Prepare monthly accrual journal entries and ensure accurate and timely monthly, quarterly and year end close Assist with business tax and census filings and renewals Assist with annual external audits and tax preparation Research current GAAP, FASB, and OMB pronouncements Handle field questions concerning financial results Assess efficiency and effectiveness of current processes / systems and recommend changes for improvement in monthly processing; document and implement process improvements, maintain documentation of all departmental procedures Support accounts receivable and accounts payable functions, as necessary Assist with budget preparation and forecasts, as necessary Compile schedules and analyze financial data for presentation to management Assist management with ad hoc projects, as necessary Direct Reports: None QUALIFICIATIONS Formal Education: BS/BA in accounting required. CPA preferred or equivalent experience. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required: 3 years accounting/finance experience and general ledger systems Strong understanding of GAAP, accounting theory and supporting systems Proficient working knowledge of Microsoft Excel Highly detail oriented and organized in work Ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines Excellent problem-solving abilities Strong flexibility and adaptability skills Ability to improve and streamline processes Team player with a customer service focus and excellent communication / interpersonal skills that can work cooperatively with all levels of employees, management & external agencies Ability to work independently with minimal supervision as well as within a group/team Must have discretion to maintain and handle confidential or sensitive information Must have the ability to multi-task in order to oversee multiple projects at one time Disclaimer Statemen t : The preceding job description has been written to reflect managements assignment of essential functions.
