Duties

*** This position is temporary in nature and is not to exceed 24 months. This is strictly a temporary appointment where there is no permanent need or permanent funding available for the work involved. This position is subject to the project needs of the Agency. Therefore, the appointment could be terminated at any time due to shortage of work or shortage of funds without any advance notice. If project work continues however, it could be extended beyond the 24-month time frame at the sole discretion of the Agency. As a non-permanent employee, you may also be separated for failure to meet management's expectations, with no advance notice. ***

Major Duties:

Supervisory Responsibilities

-Performs administrative and technical supervisory functions for subordinates. Assigns duties to, and evaluates their performance. Manages the organizational unit's budget and workload.

-Develops performance requirements for subordinates and ensures a mutual understanding of the performance standards.

-Resolves complaints and grievances as delegated by higher level supervisors.

-Ensures support for equal employment opportunity (EEO) goals and requirements and practices non-discriminatory employment actions to prevent unlawful discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex, national origin, sexual orientation, genetic information, age or disability.

-Provides for employee skills enrichment through job related coaching, mentoring and training.

-Utilizes a thorough knowledge of and compliance with all OSHA safety rules and regulations to ensure that work progresses in a safe manner and to initiate or take corrective action on unsafe conditions in managed areas. Provides or receives training, either on the job or through classroom training, to ensure that all direct reports know how to use required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). Routinely checks to verify that subordinates are using all required PPE.

Runs Projects

-Uses a wide knowledge of wood supplies and precision woodworking methods and their alternatives to plan and lay out the work from specifications, blueprints, rough sketches, and verbal instructions, taking into consideration the tooling, durability, cost, strength, and appearance characteristics of a variety of softwoods, hardwoods, plywood, veneers, and wood substitutes for both carpentry and wood crafting projects. Responsible for framing and for installation of drywall.

Crafts High-Quality, Decorative Woodwork

-Selects, cuts, turns, shapes, joins, bonds, fits, assembles, and decorates wooden materials and parts, using the full range of hand and power woodworking tools, machines, and techniques to create superior and structurally reliable woodwork that requires exact fitting and close weight, pressure, and size tolerances to construct specialty furniture. Woodwork examples include cabinetry, furniture, bookcases, countertops, wainscot paneling, rostrums, podiums, and reception counters.
