Duties

  • Prepare Reports of Inquiry or Reports of Investigative Inquiry, briefings, executive summaries, and information papers on select cases for The Inspector General (TIG) and Senior Officials.
  • Review and prepare case correspondence to include routine administrative office forms, memorandums.
  • Set standards for the conduct of assistance and investigative processes and conduct quality control reviews.
  • Plan, arrange and execute all aspects of investigative actions
  • Analyze investigative reports for the presence of critical and sensitive issues that may warrant special handling
  • Evaluate the sufficiency of evidence collected.
  • identify fraud or criminal related improprieties and recommend referral of those cases to the appropriate office or criminal/law enforcement agencies for investigation.
  • Recommend whether the matter is appropriate for an investigative inquiry, formal investigation, assistance, or teaching and training.
  • Conduct high priority and sensitive inquiries directed by the Assistance Division Chief, and investigations directed by The Inspector General.
  • Conduct and provide oversight for directed IG investigations and investigative inquiries into allegations of impropriety

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.
  • Applicants referred for consideration will be subject to a database check against the Army Inspector General Action Request (IGARS) database to screen for substantiated and ongoing IG investigations.
  • A social security number (SSN) is required to conduct the background investigation; applicants must supply their SSN when asked by the hiring authority.
  • Must be able to obtain an Inspector General (IG) certificate from the Inspector General School upon completion of the three week IG Training. Incumbent is subject to removal if unable to obtain certification at the end of training.
  • This position required the incumbent to travel TDY for several weeks at a time up to 40% of the time.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes Preparing formal reports of investigation and/or investigative inquiry;
Conducting review of issues and/or complaints and determine evidence necessary to resolve issues; Conducting high priority inquiries and/or investigations; and Providing recommendations for the final disposition of cases. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12).

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-12).

Education

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
