Overview: Palladian Partners, an Altarum company, is looking for a Scientific Coding Analyst to support the NICHD. This is an exciting opportunity to augment the NICHD federal staff in OSPRA's Referral and Program Analysis Branch (RPAB) to assist in scientific coding and classification, validation and participation in the implementation of maintenance of NIH-wide scientific reporting systems, scientific reporting, and portfolio and program analysis. Responsibilities: Scientific coding: the incumbent will serve as a scientific coder responsible for a significant portfolio of extramural and intramural projects. Incumbent will assign scientific codes to funded and unfunded projects using NICHD's well-developed, well-characterized system and taxonomy for scientific coding. Incumbent is expected to quickly develop expertise in the structure and specifics of NICHD's scientific coding process and supporting systems. Over time, the incumbent may also assist with referral of grant applications to extramural branches. Implementation of NIH-wide systems: the incumbent will serve as a scientific and programmatic expert in implementing the NIH Research Condition and Disease Classification (RCDC) system. This will also include validating RCDC results using NICHD internal scientific coding and other data. The incumbent will generate, curate, analyze, and prepare scientific reports for internal and external use using a variety of NICHD and NIH systems.The incumbent will conduct portfolio analysis in their area of expertise using data from a variety of NICHD and NIH systems. Qualifications: This position demands a high degree of scientific subject matter expertise, along with excellent communications skills, the ability to contribute to a high-functioning team, and a talent for learning complex functions quickly and adapting to change. Specific qualifications desired include:MD or PhD degree in a field relevant to biomedical sciences, with a specific focus on maternal and child health research highly desired;Knowledge of reproductive health, maternal and child health research fields;Knowledge of research methods for basic, clinical, and translational research;Excellent verbal and written communications skills;Teamwork skills and the ability to work well with a wide array of individuals from diverse backgrounds, including diverse scientific disciplines;Knowledge of complex Boolean logic and complex querying is necessary; programming experience would be helpful but is not required;Familiarity or experience with scientific coding taxa and systems is a strong plus but not strictly required;Experience with or familiarity with NIH processes and NIH systems is also a strong plus but not strictly required.
