MENTAL HEALTH COUNSELOR Bridgewater College's Office of Student Life is seeking a full-time mental health counselor to provide evidence based and culturally informed clinical and outreach services to a diverse student body. Reporting to the Director of Counseling services, this counselor will conduct initial assessments, provide solution-focused interventions, and apply crisis intervention techniques, in service to the student population. This position requires maintaining timely and accurate clinical documentation, with special attention to risk management. Because this office highlights a community-level approach to campus well-being, this position also involves developing positive relationships and collaborative programming with faculty, staff, and students toward promotion of a campus culture focused on wellbeing. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES: Provide confidential mental health treatment to Bridgewater College students following a brief, solution-focused model of care while maintaining thorough clinical documentation in an electronic medical record system. Evaluate and refer students for more specialized evaluation and treatment when necessary. Support students in crisis via an on-call rotation and as needed, providing timely, effective, and ethical response to urgent requests for psychological intervention with students after hours. Participation in clinical staff meetings, clinical supervision, and engagement in relevant continuing education opportunities in accordance with licensure standards, keeping in mind the specific mental health needs of our student population. Consult and coordinate care with medical and mental health professionals, Student Life staff, faculty about individual students as the need arises and confidentiality permits. Develop and implement psychoeducational and clinical support groups and/or workshops on common issues facing students. Collaborate with Student Life colleagues in the training of student leaders or groups (eg Residential Life student staff). Supervise pre-degree practicum students, interns, and post-degree residents Exhibit a willingness to participate in inter-departmental initiatives that serve the College's mission. QUALIFICATIONS: A master's degree or higher in an applied mental health field (eg, Social Work, Counseling, Psychology) from an accredited institution Current licensure, or license-eligible within one year of employment in the state of Virginia in your discipline (ie, as a Licensed Psychologist, LCSW, LMFT, or LPC). Two years of prior counseling experience, preferably within a counseling center, or experience providing solution-focused mental health services to a diverse, young adult population Demonstrated engagement in serving a diverse community with a solid foundation in identity development and expertise in providing mental health services to under-served and or marginalized client populations (eg ethnicity, race, sexual orientation, gender identity /expression, income level and generational access to higher education, nationality, religious/spiritual background, neuro-diverse students, etc.) Experience facilitating support and discussion groups for specific demographic populations. Experience and training in working with trauma.
