Posting DetailsI. JOB OVERVIEW Job Description Summary: The George Washington University (GW) is seeking a Paralegal to join its Office ofthe Vice President and General Counsel (OGC). OGC provides quality legal, strategic and policy advice and counseling on a broad range of cutting-edge issues that confront a large urban private research university. These matters include student and academic matters, litigation, business transactions, real estate and zoning, labor and employment, intellectual property and technology transfer, health affairs, international, and regulatory compliance.The successful candidate will be expected to provide high quality paralegal and administrative support. This position will receive assignments and take direction from OGC attorneys and the Special Assistant to the VP and General Counsel.Responsibilities Include: Paralegal SupportUnder the supervision of an attorney:Draft and proofread correspondenceReview agreements and other legal documents for appropriate composition, terminology, and grammarRespond to subpoenas and records requests, including obtaining responsive documents and making appropriate redactionsMonitor electronic service of process on the universityComplete corporate filings with various regulatory agencies and track compliance deadlinesProvide support for corporate governance activities and the daily activities of the legal teamAssist with and support project management, process design, and the creation of standard work for various legal team initiativesConduct legal and other research and prepare memoranda summarizing relevant laws and casesAssist with client relationsProvide litigation support and assist with discovery, including e-discoveryMaintain litigation and administrative claims tracking reportsCompile summaries of cases for reporting to Board of Trustees and senior officialsAssist with processing legal bills in electronic legal billing system (currently Legal Tracker)Maintain attorney filesWork collaboratively with the healthcare paralegal and act as his/her back up as neededAdministrative SupportUnder the supervision of the Special Assistant to the VP and General Counsel:Schedule meetings and maintain attorney(s) calendar(s)Assist with travel arrangements and reimbursements for university-related travelPerform a variety of clerical and administrative support tasks such as assembling materials, preparing documents for mail or courier delivery, creating and updating spreadsheets and presentations, photocopying, tying, filing, and preparing documents for archivesProvide backup reception desk coverage support and backup administrative support for team membersPerforms other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does notpreclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.Minimum Qualifications: Qualified candidates will hold a Bachelor's degree in an appropriate area of specialization plus 3 years of relevant professional experience, or, a Master's degree or higher in a relevant area of study plus 1 year of relevant professional experience, or, a Paralegal Certificate plus 6 years of relevant professional experience. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.Additional Required Licenses/Certifications/Posting Specific Minimum Qualifications:Preferred Qualifications: Paralegal certificate and/or training preferred3+ of previous in-house or law firm paralegal experienceStrong independent thinking skills with strength in problem solving and the ability to initiate and offer constructive opinions and creative solutions to improve OGC case or matter managementProven integrity and sound judgmentAttentive to details and the importance of outstanding customer serviceStrong verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills, in order to communicate effectively with a diverse group of client representative offices, attorneys, and staff, providing information with courtesy and tactWork proficiently with Microsoft Office Suite, Google Docs, document management tools such as Box, NetDocuments and Google Drive, and electronic billing tools such as Legal Tracker. Typical Hiring Range $29.03 - $39.93II.
