Position Summary An experienced lawyer who will help develop the Knowledge Strategy for the International Arbitration Group (the Group) and implement projects to meet the Group's knowledge needs with particular focus on International Arbitration. The PSL will monitor relevant developments in the legal and business environment, particularly in those areas, in order to keep both the Group and its Clients up to date and identify areas to develop the Firm's reputation and practice; provide legal and practical expertise to support the Group's practice through responding to fee earner queries and the mentoring of junior lawyers; help to create, develop and manage the Group's collection of forms, precedents and research materials; organize, design and deliver Group training; work with Group members and the BD team to identify and implement opportunities to develop business from new and existing clients; and provide other support as needed. Specific responsibilities described below may vary depending on the Group's needs. Duties and Accountabilities 1 Current Awareness and Thought Leadership Monitor legal developments through the use of journals, internet resources and daily alerts. Filter and contextualize information so that the partners and associates receive only relevant information with useful commentary; Prepare regular current awareness newsletters/legal updates and alerts - collating and circulating email updates addressing new/interesting case law, articles and know-how; Use own knowledge and expertise to identify trends in the law or business environment with particular emphasis on International Arbitration and help the Group to develop new legal products, identify possible new services, and suggest innovative ways to deliver the Firm's services more efficiently to its clients; Work with Firm Research and Information Services Team to determine requirements and policies and to implement processes regarding practice-related current awareness and alerts from internal and external sources; Issue spot and author/edit and publish research on legal developments or new areas of law relevant to the Group; Participate in industry events relevant to the practice of the Group where appropriate to raise the Firm's profile as a thought leader and leverage knowledge gained for the benefit of the Group. Lawyer Training and Technical Expertise Be a source of legal, market and practical expertise for all members of the Group and more widely around the Firm, including the provision of direct support for client matters where appropriate; Work with the Group and other Professional Support teams to identify practice-related training needs of the Group; organize, design and deliver (personally or with others) Group training, including seminars, workshops and offsite training; Work with the wider Professional Support Team to develop any global training programs, as required by the Partners; Be involved in firm wide training programs, as required, including core training programs and induction courses, such as the Group's oral advocacy training programs; Mentor trainees and associates. Standard Forms Identify useful standard forms together with the Group's leadership and develop forms and accompanying notes; Ensure standard forms are updated to reflect changes in law, regulation, market standards and best practice; Conduct matter debriefs for precedent collection and matter/market analysis. Know-How Create practice notes and other useful know-how; Operate and implement procedures for capturing, filtering, storing, accessing and disseminating know-how within group; Develop material on Firm intranet / KM systems and encourage fee-earners to use Connect, KM systems and other know-how sources. Client-Facing Initiatives Work with the Group, the EMEA Arbitration Professional Support team and the Marketing Department to identify opportunities to develop business from new and existing clients through writing articles and briefing notes and preparing and delivering client training, etc.; Support with the drafting of the substantive legal parts of client pitches. Matter Management, Innovation and Collaboration Work with the Group and Marketing Department to establish processes to capture matter descriptions and categorizations in the Matter Profiling System Central Knowledge, Innovation and Practice Technology Projects Be a champion for rolling out new knowledge and practice technology systems and processes including participate in the inductions of new joiners/Summer Associates with other Professional Support Lawyers; Contribute to global knowledge programs and projects to support Firm collaboration and efficiency and to enhance legal expertise across the Firm. Miscellaneous Assist lawyers with queries; Attend regular global, regional and practice meetings of Professional Support and Business Development, Knowledge and Marketing; Attend external training and conferences to keep up-to-date with relevant developments in the law, business environment and professional support. Qualifications Minimum of six years' PQE in International Arbitration with a leading law firm. Qualified US Attorney. Prior PSL work experience desirable but not necessary. Experience of working in conjunction with business development desirable. Well developed and professional interpersonal skills; ability to interact effectively with people at all organizational levels of the firm. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal. Ability to work in a team environment. Organization skills needed to manage time well, priorities effectively, and handle multiple deadlines. Willingness to complete all tasks and learn new skills. Good knowledge in PC applications, including MS Office and PowerPoint. Location and Reporting This is a hybrid in-office/remote role which can be based in our Washington, DC or New York office. This role reports to the Global Head of International Arbitration, the Director of Professional Support, and the Americas Disputes Regional Section Head.
