Position Summary: The Director of Marketing and Sales is responsible for all aspects of marketing and sales for the American Society for Cell Biology. This position brings market expertise and insight, and effectively communicates the society's value and goals to grow a broad community of engaged constituents, including existing and potential members, and external public and private partners. The incumbent develops strategic marketing and sales goals, tactical campaigns and materials, and communicates key performance metrics. The Director of Marketing and Sales reports into the CEO and manages three in-house communications and marketing staff as well as external sales contractors. Responsibilities: Create and maintain a successful ASCB brand strategy that stretches across the Society's activities. Lead and mentor a team responsible for society communication channels, including websites, email outreach, newsletters, multimedia, and social media. Oversee budget, creative and copy for marketing and sales materials. Manage display design and collateral for meetings where ASCB is represented. Utilize key performance metrics to provide market research, forecasts, competitive analyses, and campaign results. Develop strategic, data-driven campaigns to drive awareness and growth across the Society's activities, including membership, meeting attendance, publications, and professional development offerings. Create and implement short and long-term marketing strategies to meet annual targets set by Society programmatic leaders for membership, meetings, publications, and professional development offerings. Assist Finance Department with the setting of competitive pricing and discounts for programmatic offerings that are favorable to the Society. Determines gross-profit plans by forecasting revenue from non-programmatic sources such as advertising and sponsorship sales. Cultivate relationships with external partners to identify new sponsorship opportunities that align with the Society's strategic goals. Supervise external vendors responsible for exhibit sales and advertising to track performance against goals and maximize exhibit sales, advertising, and sponsorships at the annual meeting and throughout the year. Collaborate with departments across the Society, including Membership, Meetings, Publications, and Professional Development to develop marketing and sales strategies for new and existing programmatic offerings. Required: Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Excellent managerial and organizational abilities. Solution-oriented with excellent problem-solving skills. Excellent negotiation skills. Analytical and data-driven. Highly collaborative and able to work effectively with hybrid or remote teams. Brings new ideas and can work cross-functionally to successfully execute projects. Background and Experience: Bachelor's degree required. A minimum of 6-8 years related experience, including at least 2 years in a supervisory position. Association experience preferred. Life science market experience preferred. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or related software. Expertise with marketing platforms, automation tools, and social media management tools. Experience with CMS and AMS. Experience with developing budgets, tracking expenses, and forecasting revenue. Project management experience preferred.
