Human Resources SpecialistThe autumn season is upon us. The weather is cool and the leaves are changing colors. The Facilities Department is seeking a qualified reliable contributor who can keep pace with changing priorities and increasing business demands. This position is part of a 3-person HR team and reports to the Facilities HR Director. The HR Specialist supports a division of 250-300 employees who maintain the wonderful facilities and grounds of George Mason University. This includes the Fairfax campus which is situated on 677 acres with 103 buildings and the five additional campuses. Here's what the HR Specialist job looks like:Develop, administer and/or coordinate departmental training programs and special sessions, collaborating with Central HR where necessary;Under the direction of the Facilities HR Director, supports Classification and Compensation efforts for all Facilities employees;Manage a departmental succession planning program which includes individual development and training plans;Work closely with supervisors and department heads on goal setting for employees. Serve as the departmental SME for SMART performance goals, and work with supervisors to develop metrics for measuring their teams progress toward their established goals;Oversee the annual evaluation process of department administrative faculty, and classified staff, providing guidance to departments as needed;Other related human resources functions, depending on operational needs;Please note, this is an on-site position.Required Qualifications:Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration or other relevant field, or equivalent combination of education, training and/or work experience;Demonstrated experience in HR;Knowledge of HR principles and practices;Demonstrated skill in providing project support;Demonstrated skill in effective and respectful communication;Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office suite, including Word, PowerPoint, and Excel;Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment;Ability to work effectively with diverse groups and tailor communication based on the audience;Ability to exercise sound judgment and to make reasonable, logical, and defensible decisions;Ability to interpret and apply policies and procedures;Must currently possess an appropriate, active, valid motor vehicle operator's license that meets all of GMU's requirements for operating state vehicles and equipment under Mason's Vehicle Use Policy 1411 https://universitypolicy.gmu.edu/policies/vehicle-use/. The Office of Risk Management reserves the right to review the driver's licenses and Motor Vehicle Reports (MVRs) of all candidates selected with employment contingent upon a favorable review.Preferred Qualifications:English / Spanish bilingual skills (Inglés español habilidades bilingües) highly preferred.HR related certification, such as PHR, SHRM-CP.Knowledge of higher education software systems such as Banner.Wait, there's more...Now, fast forward one year.
