Director of Finance

We are in search of a Director of Finance who will be responsible for the management of financial and business affairs of the school including accounting, accounts receivable, budgeting, and cash flow management. Establishes and maintains internal accounting policies and ensures financial compliance with State and Federal requirements. Works with the CEO & COO to make short and long-term strategic financial decisions to further CRIPCS’s mission.

Responsibilities:

• Recommend financial policies affecting budgets and the expenditure of funds; review department budgets for completeness & accuracy.

• Provide budget recommendations to leadership; review contracts for compliance with accounting policies & procedures and for risk minimization.

• Oversee cash flow planning & ensure proper application of allotted funds; manage allocation of funds (bank/CDs/Investments).

• Review financial statements & budget vs actual reports with leadership team and oversees reconciliation process.

• Oversee selection & implementation of financial systems.

• Manage a team of three people overseeing the functions of accounting and accounts payable.

• Coordinate with Auditor & Boards to ensure audited financial statements reflect the organization accurately.

• Remains up to date on nonprofit audit best practices and state and federal laws regarding nonprofit operations.

• Review Form 990 draft; prepares summary for Board review.

• Ensures compliance with all DC Public Charter School Board policies and works with leadership to monitor FAR report / outcomes.

• Oversee timely & accurate financial & management reporting for grants; oversees grant requirements.

• Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree required in Accounting, Finance, Business Management, or related field. Master’s degree preferred.

• Minimum of seven years of experience in Financial Management in an education setting or non-profit.

• Minimum of five years of supervisory experience.

• Work experience as a finance officer in the educational field.

• Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.

• Experience conducting qualitative and quantitative analyses and utilizing results to inform decision-making.

• Strong reasoning and problem-solving abilities.

• Excellent administrative, communication, and organizational skills.

• Possess the ability to determine what laws or regulations are pertinent to a particular issue and how to reconcile them when they do not align naturally with each other.

• Must be able to provide proof of completed Covid-19 vaccination
