Asst. Director, WSE Student Engagement We are seeking a Asst. Director, WSE Student Engagement who will be In close collaboration with Johns Hopkins University's Leadership Engagement and Experiential Development (LEED) Office, the Assistant Director for WSE Undergraduate Student Engagement is responsible for developing programs and initiatives that serve WSE Student clubs and organizations; providing oversight for the student organizations in each engineering department; working closely with student organizations that receive direct funding from the WSE Undergraduate Academic Affairs; coordinating the student engagement platform, Hopkins Groups; and serving as a conduit for the facilitation of student involvement on campus. The Assistant Director establishes and maintains cooperative and collaborative working relationships with students, staff, faculty members, and community members. In addition, the Assistant Director for WSE Undergraduate Student Engagement is responsible for managing the recognition of all student organizations in collaboration with the LEED office and ensuring student groups are aware of policies and procedures relevant to organization management. The incumbent will focus on enhancing the co-curricular experiences of students through innovative programming initiatives, leadership development opportunities, and educationally purposeful training. The Assistant Director will support and advise club and organization members on student-initiated programs and events that align with their mission and benefit the campus and community. Finally, the incumbent will oversee the administration of the WSE summer travel fund designed to support WSE student research abroad and organize the student research showcase each fall. The successful candidate will assume this role at an exciting time as the Whiting School of Engineering (WSE) is reimagining undergraduate academic advising, faculty mentoring, and the undergraduate student experience. Demonstrated experience student leadership development, student engagement, and program assessment are highly desired. The Assistant Director for Student Engagement reports to the Assistant Dean for Undergraduate Academic Advising, with a secondary report to the Sr. Director of Student Leadership Engagement & Experiential Development, a unit within the Department of Student Life. Specific Duties & Responsibilities Advising (60%) Serve as the primary advisor to WSE student clubs and organizations. Maintain regular contact with student leaders to develop responsible decision-making, assess student interests, respond to student needs, and anticipate student programming/leadership issues. Monitor compliance among WSE student groups and organizations with all university and SLI policies and procedures. Monitor budgets for WSE student groups and organizations and help the student leaders to manage their finances. Assist student leaders and their organization in conflict resolution as they arise. Monitor student leaders' academic standing. Administer all front-end processes of the Vredenburg Fund (ie, information sessions, marketing, selection committee recruitment, application review, final selection, onboarding, etc.). Collaboration and Relationship Building (15%) Liaise with the engineering academic departmental stakeholders (Director of Undergraduate Studies, faculty advisors, Academic Program Coordinators, etc.) at lease once per semester to determine upcoming departmental opportunities for student organization involvement. Network with key WSE centers/departments (Makerspace, Center for Education Outreach, Alumni Relations, Marketing and Communications, and etc.). Work collaboratively with JHU campus partners (SLI, FastForward U, Scheduling & Event Services, Life Design, etc.). Foster collaboration between all student organizations across departments and encourage shared resources (ie, Fireside Chat with Google, LinkedIn Day, Photography Headshot Afternoon). Communications, Web Technology, and Marketing (5%) Develop and implement a communication plan to serve students, engineering departments, and WSE Undergraduate Academic Advising. Collaborate with university partners to maintain, enhance, and update Hopkins Groups, the SLI website, and other forms of communications/marketing. Other Duties as Assigned (5%) Serve on committees as assigned. Represent the office for open houses, orientations, etc. Evening and weekend hours are to be expected during peak seasons. Special Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Demonstrate knowledge of the educational role and philosophy of experiential learning and possess an understanding of student development and leadership theory and practices. Must demonstrate a strong commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion. Well-developed written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills. Demonstrate the ability to relate to students, faculty, staff, and the public. Ability to work in a fast-paced, student-oriented environment. Demonstrate analytical and critical thinking skills. Demonstrate leadership and collaborative skills. Ability to develop and implement short and long-range plans to meet program needs. Computer skills in Microsoft Office, Excel, Access, Word, and PowerPoint. Proficiency in common student organization management platforms. Knowledge of Web authoring, desktop publishing, and Outlook are a plus. Minimum Qualifications Master's Degree. Three years experience. Applicants who do not meet the posted requirements but are completing their final academic semester/quarter will be considered eligible for employment and may be asked to provide additional information confirming their academic completion date. Preferred Qualifications Master's Degree in Higher Education, Student Personnel, or related field. Minimum of three or more years of progressively responsible experience in student affairs.
