Description of WorkThis is a RE-POST.This is an anticipated vacancy. This position is expected to be available on 09/01/2022.Welcome to the North Carolina Department of Public Safety (DPS), Division of Adult Correction and Juvenile Justice, Section of Prisons Administration. The Department of Public Safety is the largest state agency with 26,000 employees. We have a mission that matters!This position is currently located within the Department of Public Safety but will transfer to the Department of Adult Correction when it is established on January 01, 2023.This position is located at Foothills Correctional Institution. Foothills CI is a close/minimum custody male facility housing approximately 900 offenders. Position takes and reviews medical and dental history and performs examination of hard and soft tissues. They will also initiate appropriate dental care and treatment of inmate patients. Position will also order appropriate diagnostic studies, arranges for follow-up and consultation and supervises the dental staff and dental interns in their practice of dentistry in the areas of oral surgery, endodontics, prosthetics and periodontics. Also provides proper and accurate documentation of procedures in the dental and medical charts, and monitors all aspects of infection control. Position includes barrier techniques for staff, equipment and proper sterilization of instruments. Dentist also ensures inmates are provided oral hygiene instructions and informs inmates of diagnostic and treatment concerns. Position responsible for documentation of weekly spore testing and maintenance procedures of equipment, assessment of inmate and staff needs to determine the need for new programs or program adjustments; supervises the daily tasks of the dental assistant and delegates duties for the effective operation of the dental office; evaluates operations and procedures, analyzes deficiencies and suggests solutions. Will also evaluate operations and procedures, analyzes deficiencies and suggests solutions. Provides written responses to inmate grievances and written responses to DPS legal when necessary. Maintains professional demeanor and ensures positive communication with dental, medical and custody staff for effective operation of the dental office.This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with State Benefits.Note to Current State Employees:The salary grade for this position is MH24. If selected for this position, a new salary will be recalculated taking into consideration the quantity of relevant education and experience, funding availability and internal equity.
