Our team creates and executes various events and projects to improve the lives of people as they age and help to build a better tomorrow for future generations. This paid internship has an anticipated start date of Fall 2022, with an option to continue for additional semesters.

Responsibilities

  • Apply strategic and innovative thinking along with programmatic resource support that helps educate communities and promotes sustainable policy solutions on topics including Health Security and Long-term Services and Supports, Voter Education and Engagement, Savings and Retirement Security, Consumer Rights and Protections, Employment and Workforce Practices, Telecommunications and Energy, Low-income Assistance, Livable Communities, Housing, Transportation and Personal and Legal rights including estate planning and elder abuse prevention
  • Engage heavily with volunteers, chapter, and community members through both in-person and virtual outreach and event planning efforts to include the development of a new volunteer orientation structure, managing monthly volunteer outreach meetings and content, providing operational support for the inaugural Holiday Jazz Jingle and Volunteer Summit in October, and training volunteers on new advocacy communication tools on key policy topics
  • Assist with campaign planning and development, including researching policy issues and grassroots targets, creating documents to support our outreach and advocacy efforts, participating in team meetings and strategy discussions, collaborating, and sometimes leading staff and/or volunteer events
  • Apply innovation in developing health fair outreach kits for community groups and chapters
  • Lead AARP SC's holiday community project and solicit volunteer and community participation

Qualifications

  • Must be enrolled in a degree program at an accredited college/university rising undergraduate juniors or seniors, graduate students, or post-doctoral students and remain academically enrolled throughout the internship or must have previously graduated from college and enrolled in a continuing education program
  • Must be a self-starter and adaptable with the ability to work under tight deadlines
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, anticipate project needs, and discern work priorities
  • Ability to work well with diverse populations including gender, race, and sexual orientation
  • Technical proficiency in Microsoft Office programs
  • Exceptional verbal/written communications skills
  • Familiarity with creating and editing videos and knowledge of multiple social media platforms is a plus
  • In-office/open office environment with the ability to work effectively surrounded by moderate noise


Flexible Work Arrangement (FWA)

AARP observes Mondays and Fridays as telecommuting workdays, except for essential functions. Remote work and telecommuting can only be done within the United States and its territories.

Compensation and Benefits

The hourly range is $18 for undergraduates, $21 for graduate students, $28 for Ph.D. candidates. Internships are non-exempt positions and are not eligible for employee benefits.
