Duties

  • You will read and interpret manufacturer parts catalogs and assembly instructions to obtain replacement parts and make repairs.
  • You will install locking mechanisms in doors, office equipment, safes, etc., and recombining or rekeying locking devices.
  • You will use various hand and power tools (i.e. files, picks, tweezers, tension wrenches, electric drills, acetylene torches, soldering irons and brazing torches, bench lathes and drill presses).
  • You will inspect locks and locking devices to determine if they have been tampered with or neutralized to assist with solving security requirements and problems.

  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States drivers license.
  • This is a Mission Essential position. You will be required to ensure organization or facility continuity of operations and/or completion of tasks that are considered essential to the mission designated by a local or command decision.
  • Overtime, Shift, Weekend, Holiday Work and Rotating Shifts is required per managements discretion.
  • May be required to perform tasks in non-trade related fields as an assistant/helper as workload requires.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • You will be required to complete training, obtain, and maintain a government credit card for travel and travel-related purchases.

This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible. The Screen-out Element for this position is: The ability to do the work of a Locksmith without more than normal supervision performing duties such as:
  • Adjusts, repairs and installs commercially manufactured locking devices.
  • Troubleshoot components comprising the locking system of malfunctioning security units.
  • Select tools and accepted trade practices to neutralize lockouts.
  • Interprets and applies technical manuals, manufacturers diagrams and specifications.

May be required to serve as an on-call mechanic on a rotational basis. An on-call duty mechanic is required to carry a duty cell phone and /or duty pager and must remain available to respond on site to after-hour emergencies within two hours
