This position requires vaccination against COVID-19 or, if applicable, an approved accommodation for religious or medical reasons.Position Summary:Airbus US is looking for a Chief Communications Systems Engineer to oversee hardware and software developments and modifications for Laser Communications Terminals. We're looking for candidates who bring exceptional engineering skills and experience in aerospace communications systems (Optical or RF). Position ResponsibilitiesThe Chief Systems Engineer's primary responsibility will be contributing to the development of Airbus US's Laser Communications Terminals (LCT) programs based on TESAT technologies. This engineer will be involved in the full lifecycle of development, from requirements definition through operations. This individual will also be responsible for general spacecraft engineering requirements and verification, through individual work or management team members. Topics will include radiation, security and Parts Materials and Process (PMP). The Chief Systems Engineer will serve as a liaison on technical issues with TESAT management and design engineers, as well as US customers. The Chief Systems Engineer will have project and subject matter responsibility and authority.Program Systems Engineering: 60%Perform all the necessary systems engineering activities to enhance, maintain and to evolve the Laser Communications Terminal products, including requirements development, verification, validation, test planning, test execution, and operationsPromote and optimize cost savings by reuse of the TESAT LCT designs and manufacturing infrastructures in the pursuit of various projects.Demonstrated ability to participate in cross-functional planning, coordination, and task execution situations involving the full spectrum of engineering and integration activities.Assist the development of subsystem level requirements and requirement flow-down to the various components and parts as necessary.Optical Communications SME: 30%Serve as the US Subject Matter Expert (SME) on optical communications technologies. Generate Engineering plans for proposals and new business opportunities.Serve as the technical interface to US laser communications customers. Additional Responsibilities: 10% Assist with the creation engineering documentation to include guidelines, processes, and procedures.Develop and mentor other engineers in the area of optical communications. Support Airbus US Defense Space Products footprint execution roadmap: includes, staffing, design adjustments, schedule, and cost targets aligned for future business captures.Qualified Experience / Skills / Training: Education:Bachelor's degree in STEM (Science, Technical, Engineering, Math) or related scientific areas.Preferred: Master's in STEM (Science, Technical, Engineering, Math) or related scientific areas.Experience:A minimum of 15 years with a Bachelor's degree, or 12 years with a Master's degree in engineering experience in the aerospace industry, space experience preferred6+ years of experience in the development of RF or Optical communications systemsProven track-record of working with aerospace hardware and/or software systems, starting from conceptual designs and tradeoffs thru detailed design, development, manufacture, integration, test, deployment, and operations.Knowledge, Skills, Demonstrated Capabilities:Familiarity with elements of space communications mission architectures and CONOPsExperience with systems architecture, requirements definition and decomposition, and requirements verification and validation (eg Requirements Verification and Traceability Matrices)Experience leading and/or performing analyses for affordability, safety, reliability, maintainability, testability, human systems integration, survivability, vulnerability, susceptibility, system security, regulatory, certification, product assurance or other specialties engineering disciplinesCommunicate in a clear and concise manner effectively across multiple levels.Be team-minded and ready to work in a multi-functional and multi-cultural, fast-moving and complex/technical environment.Flexible attitude and strong initiative.Demonstrated ability to deliver results.Communication Skills (Spoken, Written, Influencing, Proficiency in Other Languages):Excellent technical writing skillsStrong ability to present technical informationMature ability to translate customer desires into system requirementsTechnical Systems Proficiency:Proficiency in Microsoft Office SuiteExperience with Requirements Management Tools (Such as DOORS / JIRA / etc).
