Senior Database Architect

Job Summary

Aptive is seeking a dedicated, forward looking Senior Database Architect to support digital transformation within the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). This individual will work with the Veterans Health Administration (VHA), Veterans Benefits Administration (VBA), VA Central Office (VACO) or the Office of Information Technology (OIT) to support the administration's mission with activities such as: project, product and product line management; moving from waterfall management processes to Agile and Scaled Agile practices; and from stove-piped development, delivery and operations processes to DevSecOps best practices such as Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery (CI/CD). We are seeking individuals committed to delivering and improving quality services to Veterans.

Primary Responsibilities

A Senior Database Architect has vast experience in assessing various alternative products, tools, and approaches for data management. Is able to clearly define risks and benefits of various approaches for a given need. Is able to create overarching strategies for design. Must be proficient in some or all responsibilities:

• Design strategies for enterprise database systems and set standards for operations, programming, and security
• Design and construct large relational databases
• Integrate new systems with existing warehouse structure and refine system performance and functionality

• May supervise others

Minimum Qualifications

• Master's Degree in Computer Science, Electronics Engineering or Other Engineering or technical discipline is required.
  (10 years of additional relevant experience may be substituted for education.).
• 5 years related experience required
• Has vast experience in assessing various alternative products, tools, and approaches for data management.

• Ability to clearly define risks and benefits of various approaches for a given need.
• Ability to create overarching strategies for database design.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a public trust clearance.
• Legal authorization to work in the U.S.

Desired Qualifications

• Experience supporting large Cabinet-level federal agencies, ideally the Department of Veterans Affairs.

• Ability to get up to speed quickly on complex issues; desire to work in a fast-paced, rapidly evolving environment.
• Capable self-starter with a drive to get all types of work done and high attention to detail.
• Excellent ability to communicate across most mediums and settings.

• Knowledge of military and Veteran populations.
