Start Date: 01 September 2023 Division: Academic Affairs Union Affiliation: Massachusetts State College Association (MSCA) Supervision Received : Reports to the Chair of the Department of Humanities and to the Vice President of Academic Affairs Supervision Exercised : Supervises personnel in area of responsibility as assigned Massachusetts Maritime Academy invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position as Assistant Professor of Humanities beginning Fall 2023. The position is a 4/4 teaching load that includes teaching core courses (English Composition and/or Writing About Literature) as well as upper-level courses. General responsibilities: Ability to teach an academic course load of 12 credits per semester in English Composition, Technical Writing, Business Communications, Basic Writing, and other courses with opportunities to develop and teach upper-level courses in Rhetoric and Composition. The selected candidate will be expected to participate and complement the department's goals and agendas, including department assessment activities, the advancement of General Education throughout the Academy, and specifically contribute to greater cultural understanding and inclusiveness among students and faculty. Faculty are expected to serve as the academic advisors to assigned student advisees and follow all academic procedures and practices of Massachusetts Maritime Academy. All teaching positions at the Massachusetts Maritime Academy require computer literacy, excellent written and oral communication skills, and an understanding of the Academy's unique mission. Specific minimum Qualifications and Requirements: A Ph.D. in Rhetoric and Composition/Writing Studies/Adjacent field. Writing Program Administration experience. Demonstrated record of excellence in teaching college-level writing courses. Experience teaching based on current composition theories and best practices. Successful candidates will have demonstrated the ability to integrate and utilize digital media and technology in their field of study and pedagogy. Candidates who bring to their research and teaching the diverse perspectives that come from non-traditional educational backgrounds or an understanding of those under-represented in higher education Experience and interest in learning theory, writing pedagogy, emerging media, and innovative technologies of digital communication. Interest in the ways digital and other technologies may both subvert and re-inscribe oppressive relations of power and a commitment to making those relations transparent, uncovering oppressive systems, and reclaiming languages and cultural identities in the service of social justice and equity Experience working with/teaching students that are historically underrepresented or marginalized in higher education, including but not limited to students that identify as ALANA, BIPOC, first-generation, and/or LGBTQ+. Experience teaching in both face-to-face and online modalities. A record of effective teaching appropriate to the applicant's career stage. Ability to work effectively in a collaborative setting.
