Westat has an immediate opening for a senior epidemiologist/study director to join our team of leading researchers in health studies conducting epidemiologic, clinical, laboratory and survey research in transfusion medicine practice including health outcomes, blood banking (blood collection, screening, and processing strategies), and infectious diseases including COVID-19 and HIV.

As a Senior Epidemiologist, you will lead and support large and small domestic and international research studies in transfusion medicine and infectious diseases. You will collaborate and consult with networks of external investigators and internal project team members on your work designing and implementing multi-site studies and surveys. You will provide epidemiology support including study design, developing protocols, overseeing data management and analysis plans for Westat projects to support and contribute to scientific peer reviewed publications.

Job Responsibilities:
• Responsible for all stages of research from study conceptualization and design, to protocol development, through data collection, analysis, and reporting.
• Advice external network investigators on study design by refining hypotheses, performing sample size calculations, and writing statistical analysis plans.
• Conduct data cleaning and analysis on large, linked, longitudinal datasets.
• Manage project budgets, developing technical, staffing, and cost proposals.
• Keep the project on schedule and within budget.
• Assume leadership role in business development and writing proposals.
• Supervise staff and interact with clients and collaborators.
• Contribute to manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed and technical journals.

Basic Qualifications:
• Master's Degree in epidemiology, public health or equivalent and 8-10 years of research experience/PhD with 5 years of experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience required.
• Expertise in designing and conducting multi-site studies in transfusion medicine, health outcomes research or infectious diseases.
• Programming experience in SAS and R required.
• Experience drafting statistical analysis plans and overseeing and conducting analysis.
• Experience with cutting edge data visualization techniques and tools.
• Experience managing project budgets, developing technical, staffing, and cost proposals.
• Experience collecting and analyzing large datasets of Electronic Health Records (EHR) and data from primary sources (e.g., agencies, individuals).

Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience working in a contracting environment.
• Experience presenting research findings to a variety of audiences.
• Fluency in Portuguese is highly desirable.

Candidates must possess excellent communication skills and be able to work in a team environment.
