Duties

The principal responsibility of the selectee will be to provide day-to-day management of the editorial and publishing functions for the distribution and dissemination of the primary research products of CRS. The selectee will be responsible for the management and direction of the Section, including strategic workforce planning and management, policy administration, and operational processes. The selectee will set priorities and direct the work of the Section staff, and manage the technical resources allocated to the Section to achieve its goals. In addition, the selectee will lead the development of policies, procedures, and standards, and/or provide guidance on editorial and publishing programs, systems, and issues.

Additional responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
  • Oversees and provides authoritative guidance to the review of written products, and resolves problems with style, objectivity, appropriateness, and conformity with agency policies.
  • Collaborates with other CRS managers and authors in the preparation of CRS research products, and negotiates product changes and offers suggestions and recommendations.
  • Employs extensive, comprehensive knowledge of information technology that applies to publishing production systems.
  • Stays abreast of current publishing technologies and develops methods and approaches for incorporating new technologies into the overall publication production system.
  • Advises the Associate Director of PUB on the application of editorial and publishing practices and on the formulation of an overall approach to editorial and publishing matters.
  • Leads and/or serves on CRS or Library working groups within the functional area and expertise of the position, as requested by the Associate Director of PUB.

The salary range indicated reflects the locality pay adjustments for the Washington, D.C., Metropolitan area.

The incumbent of this position may work a flexitime work schedule.

The tour of duty for this position is full-time.

This is a supervisory, non-bargaining unit position.

Relocation expenses will not be authorized for the person(s) selected under this vacancy announcement.

Applicants must have had progressively responsible experience and training sufficient in scope and quality to furnish them with an acceptable level of the following knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties of the position without more than normal supervision.

Although it is the Library's policy to afford the maximum pay benefit to employees when setting rates of pay, a new appointee who has had no previous Federal service will generally be paid at step one of the grade.
