Duties

  • Develop research plans and integrate into a larger program of basic science topics, such as leader development, organizational effectiveness, learning, and personnel selection and assignment.
  • Provide guidance to other research psychologists at lower grades and provide guidance to operational personnel in the preparation and execution of personnel surveys, tests, and assessments.
  • Develop valid and reliable data collection methods using both experimental based observations and subjective instruments.
  • Perform psychometrics analysis and write reports describing the completed research.
  • Review reports of other scientists and contract personnel for quality, accuracy, professional standards, and compliance with regulations and style manuals.
  • Prepare and provide briefs after receiving minimal input from the unit chief and/or team leader.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.
  • Three year trial/probationary period may be required.
  • This position requires you to submit a Public Financial Disclosure Report (OGE 278) or a Confidential Financial Disclosure Report (OGE450) upon entry, and annually thereafter.
  • This position will require you to obtain and maintain a COR appointment(s) from the Army Research Institute -approved contracting agents.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Basic Requirement for a Research Psychologist:

Minimum Education Requirement: Bachelor's degree with a major or equivalent in psychology from an accredited college or university is required. A graduate degree (e.g., M.A., M.S., or Ph.D.) in psychology is preferred.

Experience required: To qualify based on your experience, your resume must describe at least one year of experience which prepared you to do the work in this job.

Specialized experience is defined as: experience conducting personnel research (e.g., hypothesis development, research design, data collection, statistical analysis of data including adverse impact analyses, and report writing) in relevant areas of the behavioral and social sciences and experience developing and/or validating personnel and/or talent management selection, promotion, or assignment tests and assessments. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service DB-02 (GS-11).

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you may qualify if your education meets the definitions below:

Education Substitution for Specialized Experience for DB-03 (GS-12-13): Successful completion of a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the research position, such as Psychology. This position is not a clinical and counseling psychology position.

Combination of Experience and Education Substitution for Specialized Experience for DB-03 (GS12-13):If you have some, but not all, of the experience or education described above, you may still qualify by combining the amount of creditable experience and education that you possess. To compute the percentage, divide your total months of qualifying experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of graduate education in excess of 36 hours (total semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100% to qualify.

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) or Pay Band (DB) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-11 or DB-02).
