Qualifications

To qualify, an applicant must:Be a citizen of the U.S.; Possess a J.D. degree, be an active member of the bar in good standing (any U.S. jurisdiction), and have at least four years of post-J.D. experience; and Have significant and wide-ranging, investigation, litigation and enforcement experience and expertise, including a significant background in antitrust law and excellent communication skills. A significant background in antitrust law. Excellent communications skills. A minimum of five years of civil litigation experience; candidates with seven or more years of experience are preferred. First or second chair responsibility in a minimum of five trials or substantial evidentiary hearings and experience managing large litigation teams. Significant experience taking and defending fact and expert witness depositions. The ability to work effectively and collaboratively as part of a senior management team responsible for the Division's overall civil enforcement efforts. Strong legal editing, writing, and analytical skills. Significant experience working with economists or other expert witnesses. Significant experience supervising and managing attorneys and paralegals.
Education

As Deputy Director of Civil Litigation, responsibilities will include:
- Serving as an advisor on civil litigation to the Director of Litigation, Assistant Attorney General, Principal Deputy Assistant Attorney General, Deputy Assistant Attorneys General, Chiefs, Assistant Chiefs, and staff in the Division's litigating sections and offices and leading and managing the implementation of civil litigation strategies and tactics.
- Participating in conferences with senior officials in the Division and presenting opinions and advice as to the positions to be taken by the Division and the Department.
- Utilizing extensive training and experience to provide subject matter guidance to Division managers, attorneys, paralegals, and other staff on civil litigation principles and procedures.
- Leading and managing civil trial and/or hearing strategy with legal staffs and, if necessary, must be prepared to take over any civil litigation matters in the courtroom and independently handling arguments of major issues or negotiations with defense counsel.
- Reviewing recommendations for changes to or implementing Division civil litigation policy as identified by the Director of Litigation.
- Supervising and evaluating the work of all Senior Litigation Counsel and other subordinate staff and making recommendations for promotion, employment, and separation.
- Serving as a Division representative to interagency working groups and task forces concerned with civil litigation and enforcement activities relating to the Division's mission.
