We are seeking a Software Development Engineering Supervisor in Greenbelt, MD to support the SENSE contract based at the NASA's Wallops Flight Facility for Peraton. The position will be partially remote, with some travel to Wallops Island, VA, and to the Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt as needed; a candidate local to this area will be required.As prime contractor on the Peraton Space Exploration Networks Services and Evolution (SENSE) contract, Peraton is responsible for the operation, maintenance, sustainment and systems engineering of NASA's worldwide satellite communication networks.In this position, you will become part of NASA's return to the moon, support new earth and space science missions, and launch vehicles. You will be an integral part of a world class team that ensures NASA space-ground communications are reliable and meet mission requirements.In this role, you will support software engineering activities on the NASA SENSE program for Direct To Earth (DTE) projects. The program covers NASA Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC) and Wallops Flight Facility (WFF) with systems deployed at multiple other tracking stations worldwide.The SENSE DTE software engineering team provides and maintains scheduling systems for space/ground mission tracking, software development and installation for ground station monitor and control hardware, database support, integration/testing and provision for system backup and fail over. It will include the study, design, development, integration, testing, verification and operations of spaceflight, airborne and ground system hardware and software, including development and validation of new technologies to enable future space and science missions.As a Software Development Engineering Supervisor you will be responsible for the following:Lead a talented team of 12 software engineers (various experience levels, both direct employees and sub-contractors), and direct and coordinate all activities associated with creating software across multiple functional areas and productsParticipate in the strategic decisions about technology, definition, and implementation of the software productsMake employment decisions, such as hiring and rewardingDirect software development projects to include ensuring that projects are completed on time and according to quality standards, facilitating communication upward and across project team including project status, justifications for variances and technical informationOrganize projects through development of a project plan which includes communication of product goals as defined by top management, definition of project strategy, identification of the roles and responsibilities of key project groups, development of a schedule with key milestones, identification of risks, contingency plans and allocation of project resourcesEnsuring deadlines are met, adhering to engineering and documentation methodologies/standards, evaluation and overseeing implementation of development toolsReporting/reviewing progress and providing briefings for management and leadershipRequired Experience:A Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Physics, Math, or other related technical field, and 10+ years of related technical experience; or a MS degree and 8+ years of experience5 - 8+ years of development, integration, and test (I) of software systemsExperience in a Supervisory role leading a Software Development teamMicrosoft Visual Studio 2010 or laterC/C++ for real-time legacy code applicationKnowledge of scripting (Python or similar)Gitlab for software repository configuration managementWindows 10 and Linux systems (RHEL, Mint, CentOS)Web development and knowledge (HTML, CSS, XML, JavaScript, PHP, jQuery, etc.)Knowledge of PostgreSQL and Cloud technologiesExperience with software configuration management and software test plans and processesThis position requires a "Public Trust" background check with the ability to obtain and maintain a government Secret level security clearance, which requires a US citizen.Desired Experience:Experience with space or ground station antenna software systemsPrevious NASA or Near Earth Network/Direct To Earth (NEN/DTE) experienceFamiliarization of IT Security/Cybersecurity vulnerabilities mitigationKnowledge and experience with CMMI Level 2 or higherExperience with problem solving, multi-tasking, and pays attention to detailsStrong interpersonal skills and effective written and verbal communication skillsThe ability to work with a diverse group of contractor and Government employeesPeraton drives missions of consequence spanning the globe and extending to the farthest reaches of the galaxy.
