Applies knowledge of basic accounting principles to perform general financial duties such as journal entry preparation, fiscal administration of accounts payable and receivable data, and reporting work related to the federal Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher and Moving to Work programs, which combined generate an annual operating budget of over $81 million. Specifically, this position's primary responsibility is the tenant ledger posting of daily tenant case submissions and the subsequent preparation, processing and reconciliation of the bi-monthly landlord pay packages. Provides support to a Financial Specialist II position by performing routine and ad hoc accounting and financial tasks related to the fiscal oversight of the county's Section 8 Moving to Work program and its corresponding portability program. Additional areas of responsibility include creating and maintaining landlord accounts receivables for repayment and overpayment agreements, maintaining deferred revenue accounts in FOCUS, liquidating accounts receivables for portability invoices for portability "in" and processing reimbursements to surrounding jurisdictions for portability "out" clients.

Note: The salary offer for the position will be in the minimum to midpoint range ($ 45,204.64 to $60,273.20) of the advertised compensation range. Promotional rules apply for current Fairfax County Government and Fairfax County Public Schools employees.

Employment Standards

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Any combination of education, experience and training equivalent to high school graduation and three years of experience providing administrative support in the assigned functional area(s).

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • More than three (3) years of experience providing administrative support in Account Payable, General Ledger Accounting, Account Receivable, or Financial Management.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office Suite computer applications.
  • Ability to work in high-volume, fast-paced office environment.
  • Self-motivated and able to work both independently and within a team setting
  • Demonstrated strong communications and customer service experience.

CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED:
None.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
All newly hired employees are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 (two weeks after the last required dose) as a condition of employment or obtain approval of a medical or religious exemption prior to their start date. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Job is generally sedentary in nature, however, job entails walking, standing, sitting, climbing stairs, reaching, and bending; uses hands to grasp, handle, or feel. Visual acuity is required to read data on a computer monitor. Incumbent must be able to operate keyboard driven equipment and computer. Ability to communicate with others verbally and in writing. Employee may be required to lift up to 15 lbs. All duties may be performed with or without reasonable accommodations.
