Fairfax County's Wastewater Collection Division (WCD) is recruiting for a highly motivated wastewater engineer to fill its Asset Management Program Lead position within the Project & Assets Branch (PAB). Leads a diverse team assessing asset conditions, developing recurring preventive maintenance schedules to optimize and extend asset life, performing risk modeling and analysis, as well regulatory compliance reporting.
Under the general supervision of the PAB Branch Chief:
Safety Responsibility: Reinforces a safety culture and continually seeks to expand safety knowledge through training, mentoring, self-study or other methods of continuous learning. Clearly communicates safety expectations. Resolves safety-related matters in a timely manner. Complies with the DPWES Safety Competencies.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Any combination of education, experience, and training equivalent to the following: (Click on the aforementioned link to learn how Fairfax County interprets equivalencies for “Any combination, experience, and training equivalent to”) Graduation from a four-year college or university accredited by the Accreditation Board of Engineering and Technologies with a bachelor's degree in the appropriate engineering or architectural field; plus five years of progressively responsible professional experience in the appropriate engineering field.
CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED:
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check, driving record check, and a pre-employment physical examination to the satisfaction of the employer.
All newly hired employees are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 (two weeks after the last required dose) as a condition of employment or obtain approval of a medical or religious exemption prior to their start date. Proof of an exemption or vaccination status will be required during the pre-employment onboarding process. - Provides leadership and support to a diverse team of professionals,
- Implements regulatory compliance policy and procedures, including reporting SSOs and backups to DEQ and County Risk Management group,
- Implements asset management programs for pump stations, gravity and pressure sewers,
- Provides management of asset management program projects including initiation, planning, execution, performance monitoring and closeout,
- Provides recommendations to assist in capital improvement program planning and maintenance optimization to extend asset life.
- Coordinates with Capital Improvement Plan group, operations and maintenance staff, other county agencies, local, state and national entities to as needed for successful delivery of asset management program,
- In the event of emergency failures, the successful candidate may participate and/or lead efforts to identify mitigation efforts and solution for the failure.

- Professional Engineer (PE) or Registered Architect (RA).
- An individual who possesses a valid Professional Engineer or Architect license in another state will be granted a temporary exemption to this requirement pending the Board for Architects, Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors, Certified Interior Designers & Landscape Architects decision regarding that individual's application for reciprocity. As a Professional Engineer or Registered Architect, signs and seals own work product and/or that of subordinate staff.

- Knowledge of GIS, work order system and Asset Modeling Programs
- Proven experience and knowledge of contract and project management, including budgeting, planning, scheduling and implementation,
- Experience in wastewater infrastructure operation, maintenance and regulatory compliance.
- NASSCO certification.
