Job Announcement

Provides legal administrative support to attorneys and paralegals in the Office of the County Attorney which provides legal counsel and representation to the Board of Supervisors and County agencies. Further duties include:
  • Drafts, types, edits, proofreads, and files time-sensitive legal documents and briefs.
  • Types and/or prepares routine correspondence and documents for attorney's review and signature.
  • Organizes and prepares litigation and assignment files.
  • Utilizes state and federal court electronic case tracking systems and County Attorney databases for researching, closing and archiving files.
  • Coordinates and schedules conferences and meetings.
  • Extensive contact with County agency personnel, outside counsel, consultants, and other persons.
  • Under the supervision of the attorneys, collects, reviews, organizes, analyzes, and redacts records requested pursuant to VFOIA, subpoena duces tecum, or discovery requests using various software applications such as Logikull.
  • Performs other administrative duties as assigned to facilitate the functions and operation of a law office.
  • Answers calls for main agency line; scans mails and act as agency courier by driving to and from the Fairfax County Courts to file and retrieve legal documents.
Note: The assigned functional areas of the position are general office administration, law, and records management .

Employment Standards

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Any combination of education, experience and training equivalent to high school graduation and three years of experience providing administrative support in the assigned functional area(s).
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Prior experience working in a legal environment, to include opening and closing files, preparing pleadings, and performing factual research.
  • Demonstrated experience and understanding of legal system.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Experience using a legal case management system.
  • Strong technical skills including Foxit and Microsoft Office (i.e., Word, PowerPoint, and Excel).

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
All newly hired employees are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 (two weeks after the last required dose) as a condition of employment or obtain approval of a medical or religious exemption prior to their start date. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Duties are performed in a frequently stressful and fast paced office environment. Duties require the ability to type, input, and retrieve data from a personal computer up to 7 hours per day; stand in one place up to 3 hours using copier; and lift archive boxes weighing up to 35 pounds. All duties may be performed with or without reasonable accommodations.
