Job Description

The Washington Post is seeking an administrator with strong organizational skills who can oversee all our prize and contest entries.

Ensuring that The Post's outstanding journalism receives the recognition it deserves is a full-time, year-round responsibility. The prize administrator will partner with senior editors to identify opportunities to submit the most ambitious work from both the newsroom and Editorial; lead the initial brainstorming of entries; and finalize submissions with the executive and managing editors.

The successful candidate is a highly organized multitasker who is laser-focused on details and deadlines and unflustered by sometimes arcane contest requirements. The administrator is the primary contact for contest rules, best practices and questions and uploads most contest entries. The administrator also maintains relationships with prize-granting organizations and helps to ensure that The Post is appropriately represented at ceremonies and events. We are looking for an administrator who is deeply familiar with Washington Post journalism and its journalists and can proactively match submissions with the right contest. This person must have the patience to wait for editors to finish drafts of contest entries but also nudge them - with unrelenting zeal and persistence - to complete the work on time.

This job is based in our Washington, D.C., newsroom and requires some weekend and late-night hours, especially during December, January and February.

Interested candidates should upload a résumé and cover letter to our jobs portal. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis until the position is filled, but those received by 10/10/2022 will be prioritized. The cover letter should be addressed to Deputy Managing Editor Liz Seymour and Senior Managing Editor Cameron Barr.
