Duties

Diagnoses malfunctions of inboard and outboard motors to determine the source of trouble and to determine the extent of repairs required, including electrical systems, geared units, and components. According to manufacturers' manuals, tears down, adjusts, repairs, reassembles, and runs operational tolerances, using specialized testing equipment, such as compression testers, analyzers, test benches, and specialized measuring instruments.

Instructs patrons in all phases of safety regulations concerning use of boats and motors. May collect fees for rental of equipment and prepare daily cash reports and deposit funds.

Determines supplies and parts needed for repair for motors. May maintain maintenance records on all equipment repaired, annotating man-hours, materials, and date of repair. Based on these records, determines bench stock required.

Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Employee must be able to obtain and maintain a positively adjudicated National Agency Check with Inquires (NACI) or higher clearance as by the position and/or Installation Security Manager and renew every 5 years.

  • Employee must have the ability to medically qualify for crane, forklift and respirator use on an annual basis.
  • Must successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check. Any discrepancies must be resolved as a condition of employment.


Qualifications

Have a thorough knowledge of Sailboats and Powerboats systems to determine the source of trouble. Must have thorough knowledge of the parts of motors, including the electrical systems. Must be able to use specialized testing equipment, such as analyzers, test benches, etc. Must be able to use reference material such as job orders, work sheets, technical manuals, and manufacturer manuals.

Work is performed inside and outside and is usually dirty and greasy. Exhaust fumes may be present, and employee is frequently exposed to the possibility of cuts and bruises. Boats will be pressured washed, scraped, and cleaned of any encrustations. Sanding of boats and application of fiberglass and resins are involved and will require the wear of a properly fitted respirator in accordance with all NAVOSH and area safety requirements.

Physical effort consists of active bending, lifting light to medium weight objects, and working in awkward positions.

Must have verifiable 2 years of experience in engine repair and maintenance.
