Job DescriptionProject Description:Client has a requirement for litigation support services to support its mission. The Contractor shall provide onsite and telework support services at their Headquarter location. Support is needs to address three main categories of litigation: 1) mandamus litigation 2) visa petition appeals; and 3) complex and class action litigation.Position Details:Role Title: Senior ParalegalEducation: Requires paralegal certificate, or JD, or currently attending an ABA-accredited law school, having completed at least one year of study.Required Skills: At least two years of litigation paralegal experience required; trial experience very helpful. At least one year of experience in automated litigation support. Requires sound working knowledge of federal and state court system, legal research procedures, and legal research resources. Requires excellent written and oral communication skills and thorough knowledge of legal research tools such as LEXIS and Westlaw. Must have hands-on familiarity with a variety of computer applications, including word processing, databases (such as document review and file management systems), spreadsheets, imaging, and hardware systems. Role also requires hands-on familiarity with Client tools and knowledge of eDiscovery procedures and resources. Ability to consistently deliver highest quality work under extreme pressure will be very important.Role Responsibilities: Works under the direction of a Supervisory Paralegal or a Project Supervisor. Work products are reviewed prior to submission; however, often develops these products with minimal direct supervision other than written guidelines. In addition to functions performed by Paralegals, described below, performs moderately complex legal research; synopsizes transcripts of hearings and oral arguments for attorney use; reviews case related materials and, for example, identifies potentially conflicting statements or areas requiring further investigation; writes preliminary drafts of simple legal memoranda and correspondence. Contact mostly with other Contractor staff, but occasional contact with trial staff may be required.*Litigation (2/6)-Review, monitor, provide complex legal research/ensure communication for lawsuits-Compile, prepare, and summarize relevant materials in preparation of status conferences, motions, briefs, and other legal documents.-Make periodic updates to ensure the status of the case is updated including the name of the attorney assigned, the next court deadline and the completion of the case including the court disposition*Visa Petition Appeals (2/6)-Organize/update/ensure completeness of litigation files Perform all systems checks to determine the status and location of the applications/petitions subject of case, and other factual details to determine the validity of facts as articulated in the appeal-Compile/prepare/summarize relevant materials for use by attorneys in in preparation of the appeal.-Perform any necessary moderately complex legal research/assist with drafting simple government brief in support of the underlying decision for OCC attorney signature-Draft trend reports and narratives summarizing common issues that arise in visa petition appeals*Complex/Administrative Procedures Act (APA)/Class Action Cases (2/6)-Determine the status and location of the applications/petitions subject of case, whether the relevant cases are outside of processing time, and other factual details to determine the validity of facts as articulated in the complaint, perform all systems checks to compile, prepare, and summarize relevant materials for use by attorneys in in preparation of status conferences, motions, briefs, and other legal documents.-Compile, prepare, and summarize relevant materials for use by attorneys in discovery and in preparation of motions, briefs, and other legal documents.-Summarize depositions and other transcripts for further case preparation.-Index, track and control document discovery (including documents produced and received in discovery)-Create indexes, and track exhibits and other materials in preparation for hearings.-Prepare exhibit cross-references, and review documents for relevance and privilege according to established guidelines and criteria-Compilation of documents for production requests in complex litigation that includes discovery-Use legal research tools such as LEXIS/Westlaw to perform moderately complex legal research-Use a variety of computer applications, including word processing, databases (such as document review and file management systems), spreadsheets, imaging, and hardware systems-Monitor attorney duty mailboxes daily and respond to emails or forward them to appropriate parties as required. Perform all systems to determine the status and location of the applications/petitions subject of case and verify the facts in the complaint-Compile and prepare certified administrative records for complex litigation, including APA and class action litigationRequired Skills:Senior Paralegal, years of Experience
