Position Summary/Purpose of Position: The Dining Services Assistant Director for Human Resources leads the effort to make Dining Services the employer of choice in College Park, MD by identifying and addressing employee and organizational human capital needs for a diverse team of over 1,700 full time, part time, student and special event staff in a unionized environment. The ideal candidate for this role possesses a high work ethic, empathy, excellent communication skills, knowledge of state and federal labor regulations and HR practices, strategic thinking ability, strong organizational skills, and excellent interpersonal skills. Goals of this position are to continuously improve HR processes, implement strategies that support team member growth and development, enhance team member retention and morale, strengthen safety and wellness, elevate relationships between employees and unit leadership, manage job satisfaction, attract the best candidates, and oversee their development while adhering to department, division, and University values. Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree in Human Resource Management, Hospitality Management, Organizational Behavior, Business or related field. 8 years of experience in the hospitality industry with at least 3 of those years in a senior HR role or related function or 10 years of HR experience. An advanced degree may be substituted for some of the required hospitality experience. Strong oral and verbal communication skills and experience in successfully creating a diverse, guest driven, engaged workplace with a high level of employee satisfaction. Experience working with a highly diverse workforce (including socio economic, age, educational and language diversity) with a strong commitment to internal and external guests. Experience with electronic HR information systems. Preferences: Experience working with a Union in a Unionized environment. Experience working in a large scale diverse food service operation. Experience working in a large Public University or similar organization PHR or SPHR or SHRM Certification or Master's degree in HR or JD degree. Experience using WORKDAY . Conversational knowledge of Spanish and/or French Creole. Additional Certifications: Must have, or obtain within 90 days of hire, a Prince George's County Maryland Food Service Manager's Certification, TIPS certification, Allergen Certification and Crowd Management Certification. Additional Information: Job Risks Not Applicable to This Position Physical Demands This is primarily a standard office environment to include use of a computer, copier etc, but will require some travel on and off campus to deal with staff issues, attend job fairs, meet with employees, attend meetings, etc. Some work will require being in environments of high temperatures and humidity and cool to cold temperatures for short periods of time. Some nights and weekend work will be required due to the department hours of operations and special events. This is an essential position and the incumbent may be required to report to work when the campus is closed due to weather or other emergency events. Must be able to occasionally carry objects up to 25 pounds. Due to the nature of the operation, telework will very rarely be allowed.
