We truly are people building a better tomorrow.Graham Packaging is seeking a mechanical engineer to develop new technologies and perform research in the science of plastics and blow molding to improve products as well as manufacturing processes and equipment. Graham Packaging is commited to being a leader in blow molding innovations and this engineer will be on the forefront of achieving that goal. Guided by program or project objectives, this engineer operates collaboratively and individually to achieve his/her objectives. The position is based at Graham Packaging's Global Technical Center in York, PA.Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesManage moderate to complex new innovation / R&D projects for the purpose of improving blow molding equipment, processes, product design, and product performance Design experiments, conduct testing, collect data, analyze data with statistical software, and compose detailed reports on technical findings to address specific knowledge gaps in our manufacturing processesDevelop limit and tradeoff curves, engineering models, process maps, and other tools to guide the product and process development process Lead moderately complex projects to create requirements, specifications, and designs for blow molding process equipment and coordinate its prototype testing and installationLead moderately complex problem solving activities related to manufacturing challengesDevelop and utilize instrumentation and data collection tools to measure and record physical quantities for the purpose of experimentation and solving moderate to complex problemsUse solid modeling and simulation tools for mechanical design of products, simple fixtures, measurement apparatus, and mechanical componentsCollaborate with internal resources, customers, and third party specialists/industry experts to learn, maintain, and make visible the best knowledge availableCore Proficiencies and SkillsStrong understanding of numerous scientific and engineering principals including heat transfer, fluid flow, material properties, measurement, instrumentation, and basic control systems Skilled in designing and conducting experiments Skilled in utilizing systematic problem solving methods (eg: 8D)Skilled in the use of data acquisition and analysis softwareSkilled in mechanical design using software for solid modeling, FEA, and CFDVery good written and presentation skillsAble to travel up to 30% at times Education and/or Work Experience Requirements BS degree in Mechanical Engineering; other engineering / technical degrees may be acceptable with demonstrated applicable skillsMinimum 5-7 years of engineering experience in R&D environment for product, process, and equipment developmentExperience in plastic molding or similar material conversion processes is preferred EEO Disclaimer Graham Packaging is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
