A$ A' "A' ?The Restaurant Association of Maryland (RAM) is seeking a Government Affairs and Local Grassroots Manager. As an integral part of the Government Affairs efforts, this position provides the opportunity to work on a variety of legislative/regulatory issues that affect the restaurant/foodservice industry. This position will be responsible for local government lobbying/advocacy, bill/ordinance tracking and analysis, news tracking, research, writing, grassroots activation, and other activities in support of the Association's position and mission. Local governments include County Councils and City/Town Councils in Maryland.This position provides the opportunity for advancement within the Association to also lobby/advocate on State legislative and regulatory issues. This position reports to the Senior Vice President of Government Affairs and Public Policy.Candidate must submit a cover letter in addition to their resume via email to RamGam2016@.ResponsibilitiesSupport the Association's Government Affairs efforts by serving as the point person for local government advocacy, legislative tracking, news updates, and policy analysis.Produce compliance information regarding local legislation, laws and regulations that affect the restaurant/foodservice industry.Engage RAM members to contact elected officials about pending issues that affect the restaurant/foodservice industry, to testify at public hearings and build relationships with elected officials, and to speak with the media on local issues when needed.Draft legislative updates, action alerts, talking points, testimony/position statements and issue summaries.Represent the Association at meetings and public hearings as necessary (some evening meetings/hearings as determined by local government calendars).Assist with the Association's State government affairs goals as needed, and other Association-related duties as assigned.Qualifications/Requirements4-year college degree (public policy, political science, communications, or similar area of study preferred).At least one year of professional government affairs or legislative process experience.Must have own transportation and be willing to travel statewide as needed (mileage reimbursement provided).Must be willing to work primarily at Columbia office location; occasional telecommuting is allowed.Desired SkillsHighly collaborative and accountable with proven interpersonal and diplomacy skills.Can work effectively under pressure and prioritize, often juggling multiple assignments within short timeframes while following through and meeting deadlines.Meticulous attention to detail and accountability to established timelines.Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written; demonstrate clear and concise business communication skills.Highly effective organizational, time-management, priority-setting and problem-solving skills.Ability to persuade/motivate others to take action as needed.Possess strong work ethic and high degree of integrity; shows discretion and protects confidential information.Proficiency across the Microsoft Office Suite and ability to learn new technology as needed.
