Principal Risk Specialist

The Card Data Management team within Capital One's Card division is composed of highly motivated professionals on a mission to achieve world class data stewardship. As a Principal Risk Associate in Card Data Management you will have the opportunity to ensure that Card data is well managed by elevating our data management control environment to be best in class. You will have responsibility for ensuring that the Card Data Management controls are designed and implemented in a manner that meets the intent of Card best practices, Enterprise policy, and industry standards.

Core capabilities for this role include a strong collaborative mindset with significant risk management expertise coupled with a balanced approach to driving effectiveness and efficiency to enhance both business and risk management processes and programs. This role requires a well-rounded and seasoned individual who is comfortable adjusting their approach to meet unique needs across multiple stakeholder groups within a complex organization.

Successful candidates will demonstrate a proven track record of project and program delivery; change resiliency to maintain momentum in a dynamic, fast-paced and complex environment and among competing priorities; and strong partnership and communication skills to engage and influence critical stakeholders. This role is ideal for someone with strong leadership skills, who can support transformational change and deliver game-changing value. The preferred candidate will have experience working in Compliance and/or Risk Management organizations within a major financial company, with a solid understanding of process management frameworks, risk and control methodology, control testing methodology, and regulatory requirement management and applicability. Experience with automated/hybrid control testing is also a plus.

Additional responsibilities will include (but may not be limited to):
  • Executing control framework strategy and timeline
  • Reviewing operational results and collaborating with control intent owens to ensure risks are addressed timely
  • Implementing and delivering on a subset of the program deliverables
  • Suggesting changes to control design based on control performance, changes to policy, or other identified risks
  • Gather data and reporting; perform initial analysis or potentially evaluate data provided by team analysts to better understand overall risk posture
  • Designing and implementing internal governance processes
  • Identifying opportunities to streamline, automate and enhance our data governance practices, processes and controls
  • Tracking control performance and results from testing and audits for ongoing analysis and trend reporting


Basic Qualifications:
  • At least a Bachelor's Degree or military experience with at least 2 years of Risk Management or Audit experience OR at least 3 years of Risk Management or Audit experience


Preferred Qualifications:
  • 1+ years of data governance or data management experience
  • 2+ years of Financial Services industry experience
  • 4+ years of Risk Management or Audit experience
