DC based, mission-driven organization administering health and pension benefits has an opportunity for a Special Payments Analyst to join our Eligibility Services Department. The incumbent will handle an array of duties to include (but not limited to): Department s subject matter expert on Qualified Domestic Relations Orders (QDROs) and other garnishments, Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act (COBRA) enrollments, and other special payments required by the Plans and Trusts Communicates with the Office of General Counsel and outside attorneys, both verbally and in writing Makes the final eligibility and payment determinations on applications by reviewing documentation, interpreting complex pension and benefit plan rules, and applying those to specific individual situations Bachelor s Degree PLUS three years experience in a position utilizing extensive oral and written communication skills, including oral and written interpretation and analysis of complex regulations, policies, and/or procedures and the development of written reports which demonstrate the ability to analyze technical concepts, regulations, policies, and procedures with accuracy and clarity. Must have working knowledge of the Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA), the Retirement Equity Act, COBRA, QDRO administration, pension processing and quality review, Social Security, and other related programs. Certified Employee Benefits Specialist (CEBS) and/or paralegal coursework preferred. Must pass required testing. Great time management skills. Positions with the UMWA Health and Retirement Funds require COVID-19 vaccination subject to applicable state and federal law.
