Job SummaryThe Compliance Analyst II analyzes risk through various exception-based monitoring reports, surveillance tools and client account database software for potential sales practice issues and to ensure compliance with regulatory and Firm policies and procedures. The Analyst II acts in an oversite capacity to identify, escalate and remediate risk based on their independent judgement/determination of the facts presented.This position will sit in Baltimore, MD or St. Louis, MO.Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesAnalyze exception-based monitoring reports for potential sales practice issues and to ensure compliance with regulatory and Firm policies and procedures.Performs on-going monitoring and investigations of numerous market related activities, including client account & Financial Advisor activities, to ensure conformity with Stifel policies, procedures, and SEC, FINRA and MSRB regulations.Examines and verifies the appropriateness of activity in client accounts and has the authority to question and/or challenge FAs if needed.Recommends solutions to questionable practices to bring about compliance with regulations, or to protect solvency of the retail branch.Perform reviews in a timely manner, investigate and escalate issues as necessary and document the resolution and any corrective action taken.Maintain statistics, identify patterns and contribute to management reports for appropriate escalation of significant issues and accomplishments.Utilize ad-hoc query tools to mine data for investigations.Conducts compliance pre-hire interviews & screens on potential retail Financial Advisors prior to them joining the firm.Assists Firm in researching and responding to SEC, FINRA and MSRB regulatory inquiries.Works with retail Branch Supervisors to ensure that the Firm's supervisory responsibilities are met.Partners with additional internal departments to further reduce risk and to gain additional information or knowledge to enhance the execution of projects.QualificationsIndustry knowledge, theories and concepts of methodology, knowledge of various investment products, process development, change management and implementation.Working knowledge of Retail Brokerage Compliance analysis and reporting. Ability to identify and affect appropriate risk and control mechanisms.Product specific knowledge in Structured Investments, Complex products or Alternative InvestmentsKnowledge of laws, legal codes, government regulations, agency rules including SEC/Exchange rules/regulations, Industry practice and Stifel policies and their application.Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.Education and ExperienceMinimum Required: Bachelor's Degree in related field or equivalent experience3+ years of experience in Retail Brokerage Compliance or Retail Brokerage (Branch) ExperienceSeries 7, 63 & 65, or 66Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, OutlookExperience working with Bloomberg applicationAbout StifelEstablished in 1890, Stifel is one of the nation's leading full-service wealth management and investment banking firms.
