Term Instructional Faculty (9-month)The George Mason University Honors College invites applications for the position of Term Instructional Faculty (9-month). Responsibilities:The teaching load for this position is 4:4. Candidates must have prior experience teaching undergraduate research and a demonstrated commitment to an anti-racist pedagogy. The successful candidate is expected to regularly teach HNRS 110: Principles of Research and Inquiry and HNRS 130: Identity, Community and Difference. HNRS 110 is an inquiry-based learning course that introduces students to the research process. HNRS 130 courses can cover a range of topics related to how conceptions of identity, community and difference are articulated and practiced in specific social and historical contexts. In recent years, HNRS 130 faculty have taught courses on issues of diversity and inclusion as they connect to race, ethnicity, gender, religion, disability, immigration, language, and political affiliation. The general duties of all Honors College staff include working to develop the quality and reputation of the college, supporting the recruitment of students to the Honors College, and mentoring students as needed. The Honors College is a multidisciplinary unit, and as such, we encourage applicants from across disciplines to apply, including broadly in the arts, humanities, social sciences, and public policy as well as in specific disciplines like African and African American studies, anthropology, area studies, art history, communication, community health, criminology, cultural studies, economics, education, English, history, languages, philosophy, psychology, public administration, religious studies, sociology, and women and gender studies.Required Qualifications:Applicants must be able to demonstrate a commitment to teaching and mentoring undergraduate researchers from a variety of backgrounds;Relevant Doctorate Degree;2 or more years of relevant teaching experience in higher education;Experience teaching undergraduate research;Experience working with first generation and/or underrepresented students;Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; andCommitment to collaboratively working with a diverse group of faculty and staff.
