Job Description

The Washington Post is looking for an experienced editor to help lead our Climate Solutions vertical and other innovative climate journalism geared at broadening our audience.

This editor will have a wide area of responsibility central to the expansion of our climate, environment and extreme weather coverage. Our Climate Solutions vertical is a highly successful platform for stories about the people and organizations working to address climate change. Climate Solutions features news, profiles and narratives, visually first immersive storytelling and utility journalism.

In addition, this editor will oversee several reporters who are at the heart of our efforts to produce more accessible, reader-friendly journalism. These include analyses, explainers, a column and a newsletter.

Finally, we expect this editor to be a strategic thinker who can help us be more creative in how we tell stories across the Climate & Environment Department, from innovating how we use text to make information more digestible to the role of videos, photos, social media and audio in our report. This work will be done in close coordination with other editors on our team.

This position is based in our Washington newsroom.

Interested individuals should submit a résumé, cover letter and three clips via our jobs portal. Your cover letter should be addressed to Climate & Environment Editor Zachary Goldfarb, Deputy Climate & Environment Editor Juliet Eilperin and Managing Editor Krissah Thompson.

The Post strives to provide its readers with high-quality, trustworthy news and information while constantly innovating. That mission is best served by a diverse, multi-generational workforce with varied life experiences and perspectives. All cultures and backgrounds are welcomed.
