The Paralegal support attorneys in organizing and processing legal matters and supports legal compliance in accordance with guidelines set forth by attorneys. The Paralegal will play a key role in advising staff across AARP on a variety of issues and will work with various attorneys in the Office of General Counsel as needs arise. Work will include: (i) reviewing publications and other content, including education and advocacy materials, advertising, publications (online and print), production and studios releases, scripts and videos; (ii) basic contract review for various routine agreements; (iii) preparation and filing of charitable solicitation registrations and reports for AARP entities, in coordination with outside counsel; (iv) assistance with general corporate and fundraising compliance issues; (v) providing support for filings in various regulatory areas such as lobbying, campaign finance, contests/sweepstakes, and corporate registrations; (vi) assistance with trademark clearances, brand and IP management and reporting, and pursuing IP infringement.

Responsibilities

  • Organizes and manages legal or regulatory matters and/or cases.
  • Assists in various phases of legal matters/cases as applicable.
  • Organizes and maintains files related to legal/case matters.
  • Prepares, edits, cites checks, and formats correspondence, memoranda, pleadings, briefs, publications, and other legal documents under attorney guidance.
  • Supports attorneys in legal and general office matters as needed.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree and a minimum of 3 years paralegal experience required.
  • Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills required.
  • Independent judgement and discretion requiring the employee to compare and evaluate various courses of conduct and make a decision (or recommend a decision be made) after various possibilities have been considered.
  • This is an in-office position and the ability to work effectively surrounded by moderate noise is required.

Flexible Work Arrangement (FWA)

AARP observes Mondays and Fridays as telecommuting workdays, except for essential functions. Remote work and telecommuting can only be done within the United States and its territories.
