Duties

DUTIES:

During the course of working in the Office of Strategic Intelligence and Information, Officers (Uniformed Division) carry out assignments in protection. Duties include:
  • Providing protection for The White House Complex, The Vice President's Residence, The Main Treasury Building and Annex, and foreign diplomatic missions and embassies in the Washington, D.C. area.
  • Traveling in support of the Presidential, Vice Presidential, and foreign heads of state/government missions.
  • Conducting surveillance.
  • Enforcing mandated protective responsibilities as described under Title 18, United States Code, Section 3056A.

Hired with the OPM approved salary off-set waiver granted to the Secret Service, annuitants can to earn their full salary and their full annuity without penalty.

If selected, you may be required to:
  • Obtain and maintain a Top Secret Tier 5 clearance. For more information visit OPM Mythbuster Page .
  • Submit to a drug test and credit check prior to your appointment and random drug testing while you occupy the position.
  • Submit to a polygraph examination prior to your appointment.
  • Undergo occasional domestic and foreign travel.
  • Possess a valid U.S. state motor vehicle operator's license and maintain a valid license while you occupy the position.
  • Carry and use a firearm. Maintaining firearm proficiency is also mandatory. You will be ineligible to occupy this position if at any time you have been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence, unless you received a pardon or your conviction was expunged or set aside.
  • Complete a pre-employment medical examination (including vision, hearing, cardiovascular and mobility of extremities) by an authorized Government physician and be determined physically fit to perform strenuous and physically demanding duties. You will be required to undergo regular physical examinations and to maintain a level of physical fitness in accordance with the standards and policies of this agency.
  • Successfully complete a Mixed Basic or Reintegration Training Course as applicable.


Qualifications

You qualify for the LE-01 grade level (salary range from $66,562 - $114,497) if you meet the following requirements:
  • You must demonstrate at least one (1) year of the defined specialized experience performing duties such as: covering designated security post to limit access to protected areas; standing fixed posts or patrols assigned areas on foot or by motor vehicle; and preparing reports of unusual incidents occurring on post.

National Service Experience (i.e., volunteer experience) Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Selective Placement Factor: In addition to the minimum qualifications described above, you must meet the following requirement(s) to be considered qualified for the position: Applicant must possess a current valid driver's license. Special Priority Selection rights under ICTAP: Submit a copy of your agency notice, copy of your most recent performance appraisal (with at least a satisfactory rating), and your most current SF-50 noting position, grade level, and duty location. To be considered well qualified, you must meet the specialized experience and OPM's Individual Occupational Requirements as listed in the Qualifications Section.

Due weight will be given to performance appraisals and incentive awards in merit promotion selection decisions in accordance with 5 CFR 335.103(b)(3).

General Medical Requirements:

As determined by the Office of Personnel Management, the duties of this position require moderate to arduous physical exertion involving walking and standing, use of firearms, and exposure to inclement weather. Manual dexterity with comparatively free motion of fingers, wrist, elbows, shoulders, hips and knee joints is required. Arms, hands, legs and feet must function sufficiently in order for applicants to perform the duties satisfactorily.

Since the duties of this position are exacting and involve the responsibility for the safety of others under trying conditions, applicants must possess emotional and mental stability. Any condition that would hinder full, efficient performance of the duties of this position or that would cause the individual to be a hazard to himself/herself or to others is disqualifying.

There are also specific medical requirements for this position, and any chronic disease or condition affecting the respiratory, cardiovascular, gastrointestinal, musculoskeletal, digestive, nervous, endocrine, lymphatic, nervous, genitourinary, and other systems that would impair full performance of the duties of the position may also be disqualifying.
