Duties

The U.S. Secret Service is seeking retired (CSRS/FERS) individuals to support our integrated mission and immediately impart their knowledge and experience to the current workforce. If re-employed under a Dual Compensation Hiring Authority with an OPM approved salary off-set waiver granted to the Secret Service, annuitants are able to earn their full salary and their full annuity without penalty.

National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) Dual compensation waiver Authority :
  • Earn full annuity and full Federal salary.
  • Part-time or intermittent work schedules available.
  • Earn annual and sick leave on a pro-rated basis (not applicable for an intermittent work schedule).
  • Appointments are temporary not-to-exceed (NTE) one (1) year. Extensions may be made in increments of one (1) year or less. Term or indefinite appointments are not permitted.

Annuitants hired under the NDAA authority are limited to the number of work hours:
  • No more than 520 hours during the first 6 months of retirement;
  • No more than 1040 hours during any 12-month period; or
  • No more than 3120 hours total during re-employment (lifetime limit).

The selectee will serve as Investigative and Compliance Specialist in the Office of Professional Responsibility, Inspection Division. Typical work assignments include:
  • Conducting virtual and on-site office inspections/reviews and utilizing specific inspection techniques to identify deviations from established policy, procedures, or regulations.
  • Planning, preparing, and organizing office inspections/reviews to determine compliance with established rules, policy, procedures, and federal regulations.
  • Organizing data obtained from various sources relevant for analyzing compliance to identify discrepancies, unusual, or noteworthy information.
  • Preparing detailed written reports of findings from office inspections/reviews, including recommendations necessary for the efficient operation of offices and divisions.

  • Submit to a drug test prior to your appointment and random drug testing while you occupy the position.
  • Undergo frequent travel.
  • Walk, bend, and carry lightweight items such as laptop computers, monitors, printers, notebooks, and work papers; however, the work is sedentary and generally occurs in an office setting.


Qualifications

You qualify for the GS-13 level (starting salary $106,823) if you possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 level performing duties such as conducting virtual and on-site office inspections/reviews to determine compliance with established rules, policies, and procedures; analyzing data to identify discrepancies, unusual, or noteworthy information; preparing detailed written inspection reports; and communicating with stakeholders regarding investigative and compliance activities.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
