A$ A' "A' ?MSI is looking for a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer with at least six to ten years of experience to help us solve our client's machinery design requirements.A' A key component of MSI's business is developing advanced designs of high-value rotating machinery for critical industries. MSI specializes in centrifugal pumps, compressors, turbines, fans, motors, generators, and reciprocating machinery. MSI utilizes advanced analysis and design methods, including high-fidelity Finite Element Analysis and/ or rotordynamics analysis to provide engineered solutions to meet the customers' product development objectives.Job Description:A' MSI is seeking a highly motivated individual to manage multiple projects requiring advanced mechanical designs, typically involving high-speed rotating equipment.A' The individual will be responsible for generating machinery layouts, from the conceptual to detailed level, and developing these designs all the way to initial prototypes.A' This position will require the person to oversee the generation of detailed mechanical drawings and other engineering documents for procuring hardware, as well as working closely with other senior MSI personnel to integrate all engineering disciplines into the final product.A' This person would also be responsible for coordinating hardware procurement and assembly, integration into MSI's test facilities, and validation testing of prototype systems.A' Activities will also include writing proposals, project management, developing project schedules, budget control, preparing technical reports, and managing the technical staff.Requirements:Client-centric, focused on what will make the client successful, including both technical and non-technical requirementsCreative problem-solver able to overcome design challengesM.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering or Aerospace EngineeringStrong communication and written skillsFluent in SolidWorksA' (R) (experience using PTC Creo is a plus)Experience checking manufacturing drawings for form, fit, and functionA strong comprehension of Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing per ASME Y14.5MFamiliarity with modern manufacturing and quality inspection techniquesAbility to work closely with vendors to procure quality hardware and componentsKnowledge of designing with a variety of materials, including high-strength superalloysDemonstrated excellence in project managementDemonstrated excellence in setting up and conducting mechanical tests or demonstrating a good understanding of the operation of mechanical systemsProven ability to work and lead in a team environment and a positive professional attitudeAbility to work with other managers and outside consultantsAvailable to make field service trips as neededAdvanced knowledge of Microsoft Office products (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, etc.)Capable of being able to write proposals for new research and development workThe following attributes are viewed as a bonus.Experience using Finite Element Analysis, especially ANSYS (stress, thermal, modal, etc.)Familiarity with material joining techniques (welding, brazing, soldering, bonding, etc.)A general understanding of rotordynamics and balance qualitySpecific experience designing aero/hydro components (impellers, shrouds, diffusers) for turbines, compressors, or pumpsSpecific experience designing systems with high-speed motors and related bearing systemsPast experience in setting up and conducting electrical tests or demonstrating a good understanding of the operation of electrical systemsKnowledge of various instrumentation used to measure vibration, displacement, temperature, and pressureA working knowledge of LabVIEW, or other data-acquisition systemsHands-on experience assembling, disassembling, and/or repairing mechanical/electrical devicesUS citizenship or permanent residency is required, since part of the job may require working on ITAR subjects for DoD and/or working in security-sensitive plants. Ideally, the Senior Staff Engineer will be located at MSI's Whippany, NJ HQ, with an option to be located at MSI's Albany, NY test facility. A remote location within the continental USA may be considered in the case of a candidate who is particularly well qualified.A' Compensation:A' Salary is commensurate with the level of experience and qualifications.
